Thank god.

"God is good," O'Neal said. "We talked about it, the training staff and the doctors, and I probably would have been done for the year if I hadn't had the brace on."

O'Neal didn't practise Tuesday, and is uncertain whether he'll play Wednesday when the Raptors host the Charlotte Bobcats.

I for one am still very worried about JO, he looked so bad against Boston hobbling around, i dont even understand why we played him at that point in a game against the defending champs this early in the season on one nights rest... o well. As i said in a previous post, even if the knee is alright, its his confidence in it that im really worried about, he seemed on the cusp of throwing down big dunks inside like he did 5 years ago, i dont think he will see that now tho.

I saw him talk about it on RapsTV. He said that from the feel of the grinding of the parts of the brace, he figured he should have had completely torn up his knee ligaments. I really thought from seeing how he fell, that aside from not having the kind of momentum that Jorge had in his fall, they were both pretty similar.

The story about almost not putting it on is pretty incredible. It was all due to trouble with one of the straps. And to have made the decision to keep it just before getting injured - well it has to be a sign. This season is not done yet! It's a sign people!

As for playing on it or not - he recognizes that he came back a little too soon, but because it was Boston he thought he could make a difference by being in there for some amount of time. And his biggest problem was tweaking his ankle during the game. Now he figures his knee is ready, but he's not sure about the ankle, and he knows that resting the knee a little more is probably the best idea. But he wouldn't say one way or another what would happen tomorrow night.

that comment actually scares me.
its as if he realizes just how fucked his knees are that the only thing that keeps him from career ending injury is that brace.
he's relying on the brace instead of his own healing ability.
the way he talks; he's putting all the onus on his brace and i can guarantee he plays scared from now on out.
just saying that the knee brace saved him means that in his head - his knees are pretty much broken and he needs his brace in order to play.
injuries are more mental than anything else.

C'mon Insider - look at how he fell. There was nothing mental about it. No knee would have survived that fall without the brace. Wearing the brace should do the opposite of having him play scared. It allows him to have no fears.

This is JO's account taken from the Globe and Mail -

http://www.globesports.com/servlet/s...5.wspt_oneal25

Quote:
The strap kept coming undone Friday night, and he ended up playing most of the third quarter without it before a trainer brought him another one before the start of the fourth.

"I looked at the brace for 50 straight seconds, I just looked at it and I wasn't going to put it on, then I said, you know what, I'll put it on, and as soon as I got back in the game, I hurt my knee."

O'Neal strained his knee in the first minute of the fourth quarter when he was dragged down from behind by New Jersey's Sean Williams, and felt the stabilizing parts on either side of the brace straining under his weight as he fell.

"If that part's not there, I probably tear every ligament in my knee," O'Neal said. "I felt pretty lucky about the situation. You probably won't see me out there without it anymore."

So, God helped save his knee by way of the brace, but if he hadn't been wearing a brace, God wouldn't have helped?

ya i for one am really worried about this guy.

He has the talent but you wonder if those knees will be able to sustain his play....

at least it was a low risk trade in that he has what 1 year left after this...

I'm with ya LX!
Not only that, but look at the ankle twist that happened against Boston. another sign telling Jermaine to take it easy for a week or so.

Once he's close to 100%, he'll be back to blocking shots and intimidating oponents.

And i don't think this thing will hurt his confidence. If confidence was an issue, then JO wouldn't have played v. Boston. The man wants to redeem himself and his past few seasons. He's not going to change his game and shy from contact.

Thank goodness there was no real damage to his knee or else we would have been fucked. Not just this season, but next season as well. It takes a while for a knee injury to feel 100%. As for JO, he should just sit out tonight's game and the rest of the week and come back after the Lakers game - we're gonna lose that game whether he's in the lineup or not.

Two years ago I had a knee injury (partial torn ligaments ACL & MCL) and the doctor told me that is going to recover without surgery but he recommends to wear brace preventive not because is really required. Many athletes wears braces preventive and it looks like the brace is suppose to give trust not doubts.

As some of you may remember, I tore ACL completely and MCL partially almost a year ago playing volleyball (knee-on-knee collision under the net). I am still waiting for my surgery (great doctor, so the waiting list is long), but meanwhile I am playing some serious ping-pong with the same type of custom-made brace - and it helps, it really does. Basically, it ensures that your knee doesn't have any degree of freedom twisting or sideways - it can only bend, just like it's supposed to. I can easily see him playing off the rest of his career with that brace - and yes, the brace definitely adds some confidence, not takes it away.

Glad to see I was right on this one. I don't like to play doctor in my writing but it seemed clear that brace was key in J.O not getting seriously hurt. glad I was right. More glad J.O knee is still together.

the part that still pisses me off 'bout that play, and the image I can't get out of my head is that no muthafuckin body got in williams' face. i know it's been said before, but come on, you're intimidator goes down and everyone just kind of looks around. somebody needs to have a "don't fuck with fuck" look in their eyes when that happens, and at least get in his face. it's not like they're taking on Willis or anything, it's shawn fucking williams
