Jerryd Bayless' Potential

How much potential do you think this kid has? He has shown flashes but there has been far too little at this stage.

Raptors1995 03-10-2012 12:25 PM

He's a backup point guard at best. Shoot first point guard. If he had more size, would have been a decent SG. With cap space this summer, I wouldn't be surprised if BC overpaid for his services like with A Johnson. I would rather try to trade him for a young point guard to experiment with; i.e.) Eric Bledsoe.

Career backup combo guard

fk24 03-10-2012 12:29 PM

He has potential to put up good stats in China.

js12 03-10-2012 12:31 PM

I can see him developing into a Nate Robinson in his career. He has potential to provide scoring spurts but he is just way too inconsistent.

fk24 03-10-2012 12:32 PM

A shoot first pass third point guard shouldn't be a part of the core, at least not yet anyway.

js12 03-10-2012 12:41 PM

I'm interested in hearing the opinions of those who think he will develop into a starter. What have you seen in his game that makes you say so?

Admiral 03-10-2012 12:49 PM

what you see with him now is probably what he's going to be, he might be able to become more consistent but he's pretty close to his peak

Agreed. We should move him and keep LB. Bayless and one of Amir or Ed should be able to bring something good back, something fantastic if we include the pick. Would be a daring way to try and find an elite young talent.

Superjudge 03-10-2012 01:06 PM

um, no, he's be a poor mans kobe.

Poor mans Kobe doesn't give up an opposing PER of 23 while having a PER of less than 12.

14 games as a starter in 2010-2011:

18.1 ppg (253 pts), 6.7 apg (94 assists), 3.6 rpg (13 offensive rebounds, 50 total rebounds), 1.0 spg (14 steals), 2. 9 to/game (41 TOs), .467 FG % (86 FGM, 184 FGA), .333 3 PT % (17 3PM, 51 3PA), .810 FT % (64 FTM, 79 FTA), 2 blks, 30 personal fouls (about 2.1 PFs/game).

Not exactly horrible. Simply put, has a different mentality when starting compared to when off the bench. And Raps actually get a 3rd option on offense with him starting. + he can actually run, and actually penetrate the D.

You know, I wish we had an agreement somewhere in Europe with a team to send players because a guy like Bayless should go there.

He's got the tools to be successful, it's just something missing. I truly believe, if he played in Europe for two years, got the big minutes he needs to develop and learn how to play the PG position and then came back, he'd be a better player overall.

On some games he does extremely well and on other games, he looks awful.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but do you know what the team's record is when he's starting a game? What the opp FG% is?

Dark Knight 03-10-2012 02:58 PM

Bayless will develop into a new-age Chauncey Billups.

Mark my words. :reporter:

I just wish his ankle had been better. I don't think he's had a great chance to show what he can do. But ultimately he as disappointed me more than he's looked really good. I'd like to think he could eventually be a starter, but it doesn't look like it so far.

Give me some of what your having.

fk24 03-10-2012 03:09 PM

At this point I'm more interested in drafting Bradley Beal and have him taking over some pg duties.

Bayless just doesn't know how to play in a system where he's not the focal point.
