I'll admit I was wrong here. He's doing great as a starter, and I hope he stays. He has great energy.

I like Bayless a lot. He's almost an ideal starting PG for a team that can pass the ball from multiple positions. If I were building a team I'd want all 5 guys to be able to pass effectively. If a team relies on one player to initiate the offense, then the opposition only needs to shut down one guy and the whole offense is f'ed. I would love for the Raptors to add someone that can pass well out of the post, like a Webber/Divac.

For me, with that kind of team, I would want a PG that can bring the ball up the court, defend well, knock down open looks, get into the lane and make the first pass. I'm really not a huge fan of flashy PGs. I like PGs in the mold of Alvin Williams - reliable with the ball, useful off the ball, and an excellent defender.

If Bayless can continue to improve his shooting he's a keeper. His conditioning seems to already be good, though he hasn't shown that he's ready for a season of starter's minutes yet.

I should add that I was skeptical of Jose as a starter, because he showed as a back up that his efficiency dropped when playing extended minutes. Bayless shows the opposite - which is probably due to superior conditioning.

I just don't see why we'd waste time with him, other than the fact he's supposedly very smart, I can't think of any reason we'd be giving him another year.
What the??

All I can say is that if we end up drafting a PG I can only hope that Bayless can continue this solid play as a backup 1 or 2.

A rotation of Walker/Irving + DD + Bayless could look very, very good next season.

Naturally we'd have to find a taker for Jose. BC has his work cut out for him this off-season (if he's still around).

Thats true, any young PG will mostly play instinctively but thats ok. He'll get better and I can see him being a starter or bench. Things are bright

Conditioning could come with age since Bayless is younger, but I agree you. I think right now he's capable of starter's minutes but with the lack of a back up PG right now its hard on him.

If we don't draft a PG, then give him a starting job next year. I wanna see what the kid's got cuz he really shows potential. IMO he is very capable of giving you 12-15 ppg and 6-7 apg.

Jerryd Bayless | 22.6 PT | .493 of 15.0 FG | .829 of 7.0 FT | .476 of 4.2 3P | 2.6/0.8 RB | 5.6 AS | 0.0 BL | 0.8 ST | 2.2 TO | 3.2 PF | 35.9 MN | 5/4 GS | (last 5 games)

Stats don't always tell the story though. If he didn't go into tunnel vision mode I'd think he'd good but he does... very often and to boot he forces shots (even though he's been making them a lot it's stupid).

That's a given since he's been playing behind good PGs and not getting consistent minutes. Plus he's still young and new to being a PG. He does have tunnel vision sometimes but he is starting to improve.

i love when bayless plays long minutes against D rose, or any high caliber PG. he loves the spot light and thrives in it.
as a PG perspective, bayless has calmed down a lot since the beginning of the year and is making smarter decisions, controlling the team better. he does not look 100% confident in his decisions though. kind of hesitates a lot in tough situations.

He's tough as nails ... he's at least a keeper as a back-up. Give him more playing time as the starter next year and see if he continues to mature.
Hope he works his butt off in the off-season ... shooting, playing in control, etc

The only thing I don't like about Bayless currently is how often he'll bite on fakes, but I'm liking alot of what I see.

if we get irving we may never see his full potential. if we sign a sf then it could either turn out to be a very good season for us, or a terrible one. all depends on him

Plenty of bad decisions yesterday, it's good to attack, but not recklessly without a plan in mind. JB definitely needs to watch some video and make some better decisions on the court. Love the fire spirit he brings though, Bargs could learn a thing or 2 from him.

this team needs a playmaker at 1 and bayless is not it. If he could figure out how to get his game off coming from the bench going forward, he'd be a good super sub to have.

This team needs a 2 way point guard more than just a play maker (Jose) & that's a fact!

Bayless is close to that give him next year to prove it!
