Jermaine O'neal vs Elton Brand

The Raptors/76ers just might be renewing a rivalry this year and for the next 2-3 seasons? Both teams made huge deals in the off season, probably the two biggest of the summer.Elton Brand is looked upon to make the 76ers contenders and JO is looked upon by some to do the same for the Raptors. They both have a history of injuries and are both trying to get past them and get back to All-Star form.Yet for some reason some (mainly American media) are more optomistic about Brand and the 76ers then JO and the Raptors.

Let's face it,the Raptors in the U.S are mostly ignored like the red headed stepchild! So who will have a healthier, more effective season for their team.

Assuming both can remain healthy, Brand is by far the better player out of the two and much more versatile that JO is. The speed Brand has for the size that he is awesome. JO might have more of a post game and Brand does, but overall I think Brand is the stronger of the two.

I personally think overall the Sixers are the stronger squad too. Outside of our "Big 3" and maybe Bargnani the talent level falls off quite considerably. The Sixers definitely have a lot more depth to their team this year something that we lack grossly and at this point is a concern. :(

As mention already though, both have struggled with injuries throughout their careers. So it'll interesting to see what transpires.

Brand.
in all statistical categories he will beat o'neal.
points, rebs, assists, FG%, blocks.... and most importantly games played.
after missing an entire year, people have forgotten how good brand is. he is a lock for 20/10 and will give you 2 blocks a game.
he doesnt demand the ball and plays within the team.
philly will have a better year record wise, and brand will be a huge factor in that... therefore, brand will be more successful.

I know Brand most likely wil but JO all the way

You know, evceryone can talk about O'Neal, and his "injuries", but lets not ignore Brand and his own woes. This guy didn't sprain an ankle, he tore an achilles, it's been a career ender for many players in the past, so perhaps therer is a bit more level playing ground here then we wanna believe.

I'm going with O'Neal, giving him the Homer vote. And how can ya tell anyhow, O'Neal will be sharin g with Bosh and Bargnani, Brand is numero Uno over there, he'll get ALL th eprimary Big man touches, not Sammy or evans.

Ill take JO. I like his attitude towards the season so far.

Even tho he has looked horrible? Smart $ is on Brand.

Brand will have a better season but JO will have more of an impact team vs team wise. Our improvement on the defensive side of the ball will trump anything Brand will do IMO because I dont think they can fully implement him without surrounding him with shooters and spacing the floor for him. They already have a good defence so he'll help a little there, but I think our defence making a big improvement puts JO over the top in the impact category. Brand will help Philly a lot , but I think JO fills more holes for us than Brand does Philly even though Brand is the better player.

I dunno Thriller, I wanna wait and see what Jermaine can do. At his best, Oneal is no less the player than Brand.

Should be interesting though eh!

Kuzzy 10-24-2008 02:11 AM

Oneal is so going to flop.
Im feeling it.
Bargnani's going to take over.
GO ITALIANSSS :)

He just said he looked horrible.

Oh, no question, Brand is going to have the better season.. as for the bigger impact, JO has the ability to make the bigger impact, but it all depends on his health. The Raptors have more invested in him having a good season than the Sixers and Brand, simply because the Sixers know what they're getting in Brand. JO is the wildcard in all of this and Toronto's success will be impacted by how he performs.

Everyone looks horrible in pre season besides some scrubs like Gerald Green who are made for the pre season.

I expect Brand to be a 17+9 guy on 48% from the floor, and JO to be a 16+8.6 guy on 47% from the floor. JO will have a bigger impact on our D and Brand will have a bigger impact on their O.

Acie 10-24-2008 04:13 PM

I like Brand a lot, but I wonder about his health.

I have a buddy who tore his achilles playing soccer, rehabbed got back on the field next season and a year to the day tore the other one. Now he only coaches...

Not saying this will happen to Brand, but maybe it was just the start of his woes?

Brand is going to kill the offense that was so succesful for Philly last season.

Brand needs touches and last years team scored by playing up and down. Team has NO shooters that are needed to space the floor around Brand and Iggy. I think that if a teams plays a loose Zone to limit lanes and keep a second man close to Brand not a huge improvement is going to be made.

MangoKidHoops 10-24-2008 04:25 PM

I wonder how it's gonna affect Sammy D, cause that dude aint seeing the rock at all this year - not with Brand, Iggy and TYoung.

insight_tor 10-24-2008 04:50 PM

I am a homer, so I will go with JO ... Let's go Jermaine ;)
