Default Jermaine O'Neal in Free Agency 2010....

So.... JO finally is off his $20 MIllion + contract at the end of this year.
I was thinking, if Bosh re-signs, would you take him back (obviously at a SIGNIFICANT pay cut) to play back-up to Bargs?

By pay cut I mean LLE so like $2.2mil for a season or two?

Does anyone think that he'd actually get more than that?

Your Thoughts?

He'll get more then 2.2, his numbers aren't terrible and he can play some D. 2 mil seems a bit low. He could probably start on some bad teams.

I think he could get 4 mill or so playing a backup big on a contender.

No.

The guy was complaining about his role with the team after three games last year, even though the team was 3-0.

And, I'd rather have Amir as our first big off the bench.

keep in mind his injury history. With a falling cap, how many GM's would be dumb enough to give this guy $4-5 mil? and he'd probly want more than one year...

I like how our second unit gets out and runs with Jose at the helm and Amir providing energy and catching lobs. You throw Jermaine O'Neal in there and you can forget about pushing the ball and watch the ball stay glued to his hands in the post.

I'd rather spend our resources to upgrade our wing position. The front court is already strong.

I wouldn't touch him. Someone will give him the MLE banking on the fact that he'll stay injury free and that maybe he can recapture his all-star days. That's too risky. Besides, has he really ever come off the bench? I don't think he'd react well to it. He'd also take all the shots on the second unit.

JO will get around 5+ mil.
some team will find themselves getting passed over by all of the big named FA's in 2010, and will be forced to pay JO a bit more just for his name.
in JO's defense, however, he has put together a fairly solid season and the 5 million wouldnt seem like a bad deal for a guy coming off a 13/7 season with a handful of blocks, playing significant minutes, and only missing 5 games (so far) - looking healthy.
he'll get a short lengthed contract, and because of that could possibly make upwards of 6 mil.
kinda like how the blazers were empty handed in 2009 offseason and threw all of their money at Andre Miller, some poor team will get jilted and look to JO to be their big 2010 pick up.... hoping he can play like he has so far this year, especially health-wise.

I agree,

JO is a volume shooter and on a team like the Raptors where too many players really need to ball to be effective adding JO to the mix would be destruction.

True...I say he goes to Chicago. Tyrus Thomas is done in Chicago, and Noah and Gibson are both hustle players. They need a post-up center.

i'm with everyone in the no camp.

A. if Bosh is here next year, then he would be totally redundant.,
B. he's still too much of an injury risk.
C. totally agree about him being too needy of the ball, throwing off team chemistry.

That said he's still a decent player and should have another couple of years left. He was pretty classy during his time and more specifically re: his exit from here so i wish him well.

Only if Bosh doesn't resign. Only than would it make sense to bring him in to team with Andrea and that would have to be at no more than $4 mill a season. He's too injury prone to pay him more than that.

LOL i doubt Shaq would ever play here, too much ego.

Not only that but we have to remember the "RuPaul" comments and the "BBQ chicken" comments.

Shaq will never play in Canada.

hahahaha yeah that would be nice. But look how hard it was for both Cleveland and Phoenix to work his slow ass into their offense. I think it would be even harder for us lol.

I wouldn't want to bring him in and screw up the teams chemistry again.

Mwah, idk about that. If he would come off the bench, he can be the first option of the second unit.
