the jermaine oneal experiment was a massive failure, no one could have expected oneal to be that bad,

i think people forget that if ford didn't suffer any injuries he would still be a top 10 pg, but i think it was the atlanta game the previous year, lost all his confidence, you can tell he wasn't playing with the same agressiveness, the was in protect mode, and he is in that mode still which lead to him retiring

can't really blame him though he suffered some major injuries

ever since t.j ford left we werent a good team, shows jose was over rated, couldnt lead this team into the playoffs as a starter,

i think kyle lowry is the version of t.j ford where missing

this team coming up is very similar to the 06 team

but with more upside on the current team

And better coaching. But the main difference is our Division is 1Million x better now. Every PG in the Atlantic would shit all over TJ Ford.

Van Gundy is on crack for this

He also said Heat would win 70+ games easily in the big 3's first season together

Van Gundy wasn't thinking. He was looking at the team and thinking - I could manage/coach that team easily into the playoffs.

He forgot that our entire organization was on crack and that we needed to think of creative ways to keep Bargnani involved - like playing him spot minutes at the three-spot.

Also Bosh was just getting into his off-the-court personal baby-mama drama.

This thread is from 2008 originally; Van Gundy was talking about our team with Bosh. Not our current team!

I agree that when he was healthy and not playing selfishly, Ford was great for us. That was a stretch about a year. I think he mainly started playing selfishly because of the injuries, too, as if to prove that he still 'had it' after getting hurt.

The thing about the Lowry to Ford comparison is that Lowry is much better built to play in the NBA long-term. Ford is 5'11, 165 lbs. Lowry is 6', 205 lbs. The guy is built like a tank, which you pretty much have to be to be a successful short PG. It also helps durability tremendously; you're not outweighed by your opponents by 50 lbs every night.

As for the comparison to the 2006 year; unfortunately, we're only as good as Bargnani makes us this year (a scary thought). In '06, our ceiling was what Bosh could do for us. This year, Bargs will need to be a 20+ppg player with stellar D or we will just suck. He better be healthy and not get any more injuries! I am excited though; Lowry gives us a slashing-scoring 2-way PG that we've been lacking for a LONG time. He played some GREAT stretches for the Rockets last year.

Calderon can go back to being a devastating PG off the bench, giving us, yet again, a "bench mob" that should be all about alley-oops and easy buckets.

The other nice thing; Lowry has only averaged 27 minutes per game in his career (33mpg over the last 2 seasons). This is a guy that has not been overplayed and should have lots of life left in his legs.
