Jaycee Carroll Scores 44 Points

Have you guys seen this? If he makes the team -- I am guessing he becomes the 3rd point guard...

ejfron 07-13-2008 03:07 PM

Here's another... 10 3-pointers in a game....

Tribute --- Utah State all time leading scorer...

Is he not just a shooter? He may one day find a niche as a solid backup sg shooter on a team like Matt Carroll has, but PG? All the hilites I've seen of him he hasnt shown any kind of PG skills.

Joshz 07-13-2008 03:14 PM

Can he really cover opposing 1's tho, seems like he played the 2 in college

ejfron 07-13-2008 03:18 PM

Yeah --- he can definitely create his own shot!! PG Ala AI maybe?!?! Who knows ;)

He catches and shoots. AI????? LOL

I can definately see him becoming a Kapono/Carroll type in the NBA though. No way he'll ever start.

Based on what i've seen he'll be on the roster IMO.He would be cheap obviously and he can shoot lights out.The only thing against him is that he is undersized.I'd gamble on him,if you can call a league minimum player a gamble?Give him 10 minutes a night and see what he can do.If he thrives give him 15 minutes.

Joshz 07-13-2008 03:37 PM

Do we really need another shooter? i guess it couldn't hurt, but for a porous defensive team, Carroll seems alittle redundant, i don't no of anyone he can guard in the NBA at the one, and hes WAY too undersized at the 2, its going to be very difficult for him to stay on the court...atleast Kapono is 6'7, Carrol is what 6'4?

We've added defence and are much improved in that department (JO,Adams) and our bench is pretty crap in the scoring dept. unless you think Andrea can carry the second unit once Kapono starts. So beyond Andrea,Moon (6pts off the bench IMO) we don't have much scoring punch.

jeff, he's doing this against people in college and summer league. Jaycee won't see and NBA court anytime soon. He's undersized and doesn't have the handles to be a PG in this league. He's either bound for the D-League or overseas. :)

We'll see. I just think it wouldn't be much of a gamble for the 13th player coming off the bench.

The 13th player will be acquired via free agency and will be an experience vet who has the ability to handle PG duties as well have the ability to play minutes at SG. It won't be someone like Carroll.

I'm thinking his upside would be a Daniel Gibson type player. His down side is obviously, washing out.

John Lucas, is a better addition than Carrol, even tho he's undersized he could atleast stay in front of 1's Carroll would be such a liability at PG it wouldn't be worth whatever offense he gives you

Anybody we add from now till opening game will not get any minutes unless of foul trouble and injuries...

IMO - we are going to an 8 man rotation... Bargs 1st off bench... followed by kapono/moon (whoever is the starter)... followed by Ukic... we will always have 2 or 3 starters on the floor from now on...

Unless any blockbusters trades... the Raptors lineup is pretty much set...so I'm all for Carroll!!

I agree, and if anything they can give him the league minimum and maybe are able to then get another player allowing them to carry a 14 man roster.

Unless Sam has finally learned from past experience, I don't forsee him shortening the bench especially to start the season. He loves to experiment too much. I would hope he would shorten it up, but won't believe till I see it. He's been here for 4 seasons and not once has be been consistent with his rotations and subs.

Anyhow, the roster will be set once that final veteran is added via free agency. We're just assuming that Roko will fit in nicely to our plans but for all we know he could be a huge disappointment and what then? Roko will have to compete for that back-up role in my opinion. He can't just take it for granted like some of you have. :face4:

Yes --- lemme rephrase that for you... I "hope" we go to an 8-man rotation! We are like most teams now with 1 starting point guard.... without TJ... Jose will have his minutes go to ~35 mpg or more....

QUESTION: when TJ was out... how many minutes did Martin play? For discussion purposes... Martin was there to bring up ball and make sure he doesn't turn it over... and most importantly... give Jose a breather!

Having said that... the more we talk about this :stars: ... the more I think we need that experienced PG to ensure the ball is taken care off!

Carroll would be a nice to have then... on the injured list ;)

BC has said they want to tighten up the rotation and i would think that Sam is on the same page.IMO the last two seasons Sam hasn't tightened up the rotation because beyond Bosh/PG's they had alot of depth but nobody really stood head and shoulders above another. Now Bosh/JO/Calderon will play 35 minutes a game and the rest will fight to get minutes behing Parker and Kapono/Moon (who ever starts).Better starting 5 means less minutes to go around for the bench which is thiner and less experienced this season.
