Exclamation Jawai's Health Status "Blown Out of Proportion"

Hmm .... who to believe. Canadian papers are saying its alot more serious while the Aussie's are saying everything to this point is being blown our of proportion.

The chance of learning about Jawai’s prospects was a "day-to-day" issue, he said.

"Obviously the No.1 thing is to get his health right and then get him back on court and that’s it," Fearne said. "He just wants to get out there and play. He’s good, he’s just going with the flow and looking after himself as much as he can."

While it is now seven weeks since he has been able to train, there is no definite time frame for Jawai’s return and no set date for a decision on his career.

It'd be sad if he finally couldn't play.

Ah man I really wish he can play. The day he got drafted I searched up stuff and looked some vids. I really hope he can have the same result as Turiaf did.

I think the team is just trying to cover all the bases. Like really 100%, all the bases. If dude has a congenital cardiac condition that could possibly kill him or contribute to something disasterous via playing basketball for a living, then you better believe that his employers (the Raptors organization) will be damn sure all the t's are crossed and the i's dotted before they let him play/practice.

You gotta play it safe with something as serious as this.

It sucks for Jawai, but it's just the way it's got to be.

Default Nathan Jawai...Sorry.

A report in an Australian newspaper says sidelined Toronto Raptor Nathan Jawai has an enlarged heart and, if the condition does not improve in six weeks, he might never play in the NBA. The Raptors have kept details of Jawai's case secret for two months, other than repeating he has been tested for cardiac issues that arose before training camp according to the Toronto Sun.

But The Sunday Telegraph revealed Sunday that a further six-week rest has been advised by doctors after the latest series of tests. An enlarged heart carries the obvious risk of heart attacks.

"The doctors are being extra cautious,'' Jawai's agent, Daniel Moldovan, told the paper. "It was their recommendation — not their demand — that Nate take another six weeks off.

"The fact that nothing got worse over the first six weeks of inactivity seems to indicate it may be something he has had his whole life. I wouldn't say it's nothing to worry about, it's definitely a big concern. But to say his career is in jeopardy might be a little bit premature. Obviously if the results come back negatively (next month), things are getting worse, that would put his career in jeopardy."

Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo would not comment on the report.

"We feel there are rules of procedure and medical confidentiality to observe here," Colanego said. "We will update when it is appropriate."

The 285-pound, 6-foot-10 forward, known as the "Aussie Shaq", was the first indigenous Australian drafted into the NBA, a local hero from the remote north Queensland village of Bamaga. A second-round pick of Indiana this year, he was part of the Jermaine O'Neal trade with the Pacers.
I'm crying inside. I really am.

4 for 1 if you include Maceo Baston! Baston is a throw in but still.

was watching basketball talk on fox sports news in Australia today. They were saying the whole thing has been blown right out of proportion and that the Raptors have been extra cautious, maybe a little too cautious.

If his condition is no different in 6 weeks, i cant see why he wont start playing.

Its true that its a little weird that Batum also had a heart problem and now he is starting normally in Portland.

There should be no rush. He should get healthy first, then play second.

I don't think it's a case of him "getting healthy." It's likely something he's had his whole life - which i'm sure just adds to his frustration. I must say, it does look like the raps are being "overly" cautious. at the same time, i can see why they would want to be.

Did the Raps know about this before they drafted him? because I heard nothing.

If they did, then they would've picked someone else with the 41st pick
