6-7 Million/year unless he wants to remain with the Celtics for a chance at more glory.

I like him too, but I don't think we'll be able to afford him.

No dice...I think.

He's opting out of his 3.5 million contract.

Ainge said resigning him is a priority.

Via the Boston Herald

After a strong Finals performance, James Posey has chosen to become a free agent rather than picking up his player option with the Celtics, the Boston Herald are reporting.

Posey is reportedly looking for a mid-level deal that starts at approximately $5.8 million and carries over 4-5 years.

It is believed that Cleveland are putting together an offer in addition to the Detroit Pistons, New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Houston Rockets.

Hasan Adams is signing the same deal Moon did. Another friggan raptor camp gem. He plays very rugged and good defence.

Hassan Adams Waived as I wonder Why July 15, 2007

Yep, It’s official, they waived Hassan Adams, why? to save 600k on the payroll, well the team was 400k over the luxury tax threshold, but this is really a surprise move, I mean I’ve already included Hassan onto my list of my players I expect to see some improvement from, but looks like it’s not to be. However, I’m sure any team that signs Hassan would get someone who works his ass off, plays great defense and doesn’t have a jump shot.

He’s a quality player and I hope this decision won’t come back and haunt us in the future.

Now this is funny.

I guarentee Adams is gonna impress as a hustle guy.

Posey would make us strong contenders. I swear that Miami and Boston owe everything to this guy. But we'll never get him this year, if ever. Maybe Hassan can do some of the same things though - that'd be nice.

I don't see any chance at all. Why leave the Celtics at this point?

Yep

James Posey is the most underrated asset in the entire league. There's no way the Heat would be that bad last year if they kept him

It could depend on how much Jose signs for really. If Jose signs for 7, maybe we could find some money for Posey and entice him with the potential at a 2 year contract and maybe some stability. It also depends on if MLSE wants to pay a luxury tax or not, a tax they could easily afford.

To be honest though, as much as I love Posey, we need to spend our MLE on a backup PG and veteran big man

The alternative though would be to sign Posey, and then trade Kapono to fill those holes. That would be fuckin fantastic, actually.

I still think they may back load the contract.

Example 4years/32 million:
08-09 (6million)
09-10 (8million)
10-11 (8million)
11-12 (10million)

Giving them a few million extra to play with this off season. Especially considering Jose really wants to win and is still guaranteed the same amount over 4 years. How it's dolled out i don't think really matters. Plus paying him more starting in 09-10 then 10-11 is fine considering they then have much more wiggle room under the cap

7 = a little more than MLE, you think Jose is only worth MLE???
And Posey is great, but 5 years at MLE is a bit too much for a player who isn't young anymore and who is a career backup.

Toronto is already over the cap without Jose's contract, so regardless of what he signs for they'd still only have the MLE.

yeah, it's the luxury tax that's looming. If Jose gets 8 as it seems to be the case, we'll be 2-3 million under the luxury tax. I read this week that apparently you are allowed to waive a player to keep yourself under luxury tax, so I would think Joey G is expendable in that scenario. So we might have between 2 and 5 millions to spend on our MLE.
However, I just don't see a pressing need to do that. Anything we get a 5 millions is at best a minor upgrade at SF, so why risk long term flexibility for that?

Posey is not bad. He put up some decent numbers for a bencher. Should we get him? No I don't think so.
