James Johnson Gets Draft Do-Over?

"To get traded to Toronto for a first round pick that they had felt like a draft all over again for me," said Johnson. "I'll do the rookie thing all over again if I have to."

(Coach Triano) doesn't mind mistakes as long as you can play through it and get back on defense," said Johnson. That's what he really wants, he wants guys who will play defense and play hard. If you can play hard and play defense then you can play through your offensive mistakes. That takes a lot off somebody's mind.

i deno about all that, decent read though

Guys, this guy was a steal. Seriously, the way he contributes to the game is intense. Every stat, he fills, this guy was a really good move on BC's part....hes already a ton better then that what, 27th pick we were going to get.....

jrob23 03-27-2011 11:35 AM

yeah i've definitely been thoroughly impressed, he's a step in the right direction for this franchise most definitely, based on the article he's a hard worker too, it mentions how he had asked the Bulls to send him to the d-league for experience because he wasn't getting off the bench, hopefully he continues to improve his game and can be a full-time starter in the years to come, that'd be a real solid core of DeMar, James Johnson and Ed Davis to move forward.

People need to realize we almost drafted James Johnson over DeRozan. JJ is a young guy with alot to prove, hes better than most SF's we've ever had on this team.

DDUnreal 03-27-2011 11:57 AM

+1 James Johnson deserves love

Carlito 03-27-2011 11:59 AM

JJ is a good addition. If he works on his shooting and cuts back on the turnovers ... he can become a good starter.

Doubt that highly considering he was chosen at 16, and Demar was 9th

1st round (16th pick) by the Chicago Bulls - 2009

i dunno if Triano was just being nice, but in the article hes quoted as saying,

"He is a guy we were very close to drafting at one point," said Triano. "We worked him out twice, brought him in here and took him for dinner twice.

The more I read articles about him, quotes he says, and watch him play... shit, he's exactly what we need. Gotta be my new favourite. :police:

He fit the type of player the Raptors needed at that point, it was between DeRozan, Henderson or Johnson...

Thats a joke considering one should always draft the best available player rather then a player that fits there needs....

You got to be kidding. So if Washington gets the #1 overall pick they should draft Irving because hes the best player available? Why not pick a player who fits their needs, they do not need a PG because they have Wall. That statement was laughable.

No it really wasn't. If Washington ends up with the 1st overall pick they likely WILL draft Irving just to trade him.

you just have to hope that all these guys peak together and soon, because in like 2-3 years everyone's going to need that 2nd contract pay raise which is at least double the rookie salary

Some of them will have shown themselves to be either counterfeits or redundant by then.....and won't get that. That's the advantage to being a tank team. You get the opportunity to see what you have before you move forward. Meanwhile a stacked team might let some guy who is Kobe junior walk away because he can't get a chance.
