James Johnson on Fantasy Insider: Pick-Up or Drop

Pretty cool, they said they need to see a little more consistency, its only been 5 games but yeah, see for yourself

wouldn't do it, once andrea returns, his PF minutes will vanish, and he's most effective when he plays the 4 in small ball lineups.

still, besides andrea, he's the player who's shown the most improvement this year.

I'm going to rotate JJ & G. Henderson in & out of my fantasy team going forward....

MakeMyDeparture 03-06-2012 02:40 PM

I picked him up last week for a game or two, really nice production. Im still waiting on Il Mago to return, my team will be unbeatable with him -

Love
Bargs
Gay
Gallinari

Make up a formidable foursome.

Dario 03-06-2012 06:03 PM

Lol, if he can do t his consistently, this is a huge pickup for Collangelo for a 2nd round pick

MrClutch 03-06-2012 06:56 PM

ive had johnson for a month or 2 now. hes been helpful

Thug 03-06-2012 11:37 PM

I think he has the potential to be the 6th or 7th man of the future for this team if not starting small forward..

He needs to be able to knock down the set shot 3 if he wants to be a starter. He's great defensively but he's going to hamper us on offence if he's starting and cant hit the longball consistantly. Get in the gym in the summer, James.

I remember watching some video this summer where James Johnson practices jumping onto a platform at his chest height. It was a video about how hockey players were becoming more athletic or something. It made wish that Ed and Demar were there doing the same thing.

He's been putting up nice offensive numbers for just over a week or so. All double-digits. Shot's gotta be there, but atleast he is scoring.

James Johnson and Demar DeRozan don't need to be more athletic.

I don't think I'd pick him up for a fantasy team unless I was behind in the steals/blocks/rebounds categories.

I like him as a player though, does a lot of the things on defense that don't show up on the stat sheet and has been getting better at getting to the rim (or is it that our team's young legs are starting to kick in - no pun intended - as the season grinds ahead?). But he also makes some questionable decisions with the ball and absolutely needs to develop a better shot if he wants a shot at being a long-term starting SF in the league. I'd prefer him to back up a more all-around SF, or be the starter over an offensive-minded SF (kinda like Stevenson/JT in Dallas).

late 1st to be precise

with a 3pt shot, he could be a starter. I think he's not that capable defending 2s though, like some of the other elite defenders like tony allen. He's more of a 3/4 defender.

torontomen 03-07-2012 03:44 PM

he need to prove his 3pt shot more consistently to shut up the questioner.

however i surprising find that he may be fill the best stats so far from 2009 draft (SF position...)

He's never played the 2. He's a 3/4 always.

Some of the 3/4s can defend 2s very well (marion in his prime days for example). The problem is with JJ as your primary stopper, you will have problems when facing a high scoring 2, which the league has plenty. That's where a guy like wilson chandler could be a better option, he can defend 2s a better JJ can, who's a little chubby to be running around screens and what not ... :)

So even if he develops a 3pt shot, he's never going to be that bruce bowen type of defender who can cover 4 positions and knock down open shots from the corner.

Well maybe that will give Casey and his staff extra motivation to tell DeMar to finally play some D himself...
