James Johnson

I for one am a fan!

I do how ever have this to say...

Either he gets into shape & gets a jump shot this off season or he will be coming off the bench for me if I was the coach!

He seems to get off in the first quarter then he sputters through the rest of the game to me thats because he is not in shape period!

That said I do see him becoming a Boris Diaw type player that can block shots.

That is why this off season for him the pressure is on to fill those shoes, add to it the fact that the Raps might be forced to draft a SF this year.

He definitely needs to work on his conditioning. Dude tires out way too fast. One of the big reasons that he started off strong for the Raptors was because he barely played this season.

thats probably why hes not in tip top shape

I like James Johnson alot. Call me crazy but I think he is better than Harrison Barnes. I'd actually take JJ over Barnes any day of the week. We almost drafted JJ instead of DeRozan.. so the organization clearly sees something in him too.

You're entitled too your own opinion, but I would much rather have Barnes.

I for one, however, do believe that Johnson and Barnes could co-exist, with Johnson coming off the bench.

I think Johnson has shown that he can come in and do a little bit of everything, and I think that would be great coming off the bench.

DonMughal 03-20-2011 06:47 PM

Anyone know James Johnson's college stats?

And how can he not be in shape? Isn't he a black belt? Conditioning is a key to getting that.

I don't think conditioning is to blame.

Remember last season? Demar always started and played every posession in 1st Q attacking the basket and getting to the line. But wasn't on the floor to close the game.

Triano gave this same role to JJ. While you are out there, give max energy, because later on we have other players that need to be playing

To me I think he has good size at the 3. He's mobile too, plus he's transferring from the D-League to the NBA so that could be a factor. If anything, he could lose some lbs.

You do realize this is the weakest draft in NBA history, right? There is probably only a couple of good players, and Barnes is not one of them.

I would agree with your analysis of Barnes 3 months ago. But he's turned around his game second half (like Derozan I may add)...and to say a player who drops 40 and was the number 1 prospect at the beginning of the year is not a good prospect is somewhat off the money.

He's not a superstar, but definitely star potential. Don't think he'll ever be as good as JJ on D though...that's what has me so happy about the acquisition of Johnson, the dude can guard threes...played Durant better than anyone I've seen this year, including BronBron.

I think people are really underestimating this draft, calling it the worst in history. Looking at a mock draft, I see players like Kemba Walker and Nolan Smith predicted to go late in the first round (like 20th+). Both of these guys actually seem really good and i wonder if theyre going that late in the first, doesnt that mean theres like 20 players better than them? I think that makes a pretty solid draft but maybe im wrong.

Joshz 03-20-2011 10:39 PM

Kemba is not going to be drafted outside the top 10. Nolan Smith is probably a 15+ pick because he's a combo guard.

Nope, not at all. He is hyped up because this draft is so shitty.

to call it the worst in history is a little assinine at this point. almost every year, a few say shit like that about how weak the draft is and every year there are solid nba players drafted. time will tell.

Joshz 03-20-2011 10:50 PM

Irving, Sullinger, Williams and Perry Jones all have very good potential. Barnes, Knight, Kanter, Leonard, T.Jones, and Vessely are all good prospects. That's 10 players who have potential in this draft - probably deeper than most years, just not as much top-tier talent.

halphbreedballer 03-20-2011 10:53 PM

I personally feel the year we drafted Mo Pete was the worst draft in history...

Mike miller ROY?

J Crawford
& Redd in the second round?

Best 3 players in that draft class

Mo turned into a solid roll player at best

I'm glad JJ had a good game tonight! Keep it up big man!

He went to WF for 2 years:

Freshman year: 14.6PPG 8.1RPG on 49% shooting in 29.5MPG
Sophomore year: 15PPG 8.5RPG on 54% shooting in 30.2MPG

Yawn. That has been said before by many drafts and there is always good players that end up in them. The only reason people hate this draft because at the top there is no stud like LeBron James, Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant, etc. There is a lot of good-very good prospects on the board though.

Barnes is not one of them and then you later say he is only being talk about because the draft is weak? You do know Barnes was rated higher coming out of HS then Irving and the rest of the freshman class, right? You do know he has been on FIRE and scouts are going crazy about him, right? Here is a better question for you what do you not like about Barnes game?

Well I guess he does suck. We don't need him anyways. We got Bayless to be the franchise player!

Raptorman 03-21-2011 11:28 AM

Sigh. A Bulls cast away is one of our best players.:sigh:
