Raptors Jamal Magloire invited to camp

Quote:
The Toronto Raptors have extended a non-guaranteed camp invite to Jamaal Magloire.

The Raptors also have Andrea Bargnani, Jonas Valanciunas, Amir Johnson, Ed Davis, Aaron Gray and Quincy Acy in the frontcourt.

Magloire is a native of Toronto and played with the Raptors during the 11-12 season.

Ugggh, it will be so nice when we don't have to hear that excuse any more.

Yeah, but they're not just excuses. Sorry but it is true and it certainly didn't help things. Can you imagine Derozan right now if in his first two seasons he missed summer league, got injured missing his first training camp/first month of his rookie season then summer league was cancelled, lockout, shortened training camp....

All that being said, this will be his 3rd season and he's had a full summer, summer league and will have a full training camp and if he doesn't improve then even i would have to start questioning his standing on this team long term. This is a big season for him because of the depth at his position. If he doesn't improve i'd probably rather keep Amir.

Define breakout? I don't think anyone expects him to take Bargnani's minutes away. lol

Ya I guess it doesn't really matter he won't be getting any minutes just like last year, maybe even less with Jonas here. Did Aaron end up resigning with us? where are all these players going to play ?

Magloire is bench fodder. And so is Acy unless there are injuries to Davis and Amir at the same time.

He'll knock guys around in October get them ready for November and then he's gone. Sounds good to me.

I do...unless you're being sarcastic as we know you love AB. Ed is the better defensive player, I can see Ed eating into the starter minutes as DC will appreciate his defense, especially if you have some scoring coming from the wings now - makes AB's perimeter game superfluous.

Or there is a trade of one or two players from the frontcourt.

Acy is going to see more time at SF than PF and to be honest he's probably going to be the 13th man. Magloire would literally be the last guy off the bench. I'm talking POB minutes here.

More likely than not we just might see some deals happen before the season starts. If Bargnani gets 36 mpg that leaves 60 minutes for Jonas, Ed and Amir and that doesn't work.

Maybe not before the season, but i can see BC really evaluating players like Amir, Davis, Kleiza in the first 4-6 weeks and i can see one of those players being dealt possibly with Calderon. But if let's say Amir is dealt in the next month and Davis either doesn't pan out or gets hurt then what? Those two players need to impress or they're likely gone at some point.

Acy is taller than 6'5.

Stand corrected, he's 6'6.5"... not great but definitely better than what I thought. Still makes sense at SF some of the time.

He's 6'8'' and even though you said defensive reasons, Acy would be too DISASTROUS on the offensive end. We don't even know what he's capable of at the 4. He's probably incapable of hitting a jump shot in-game, so just putting him out there at the 3 for longer than a single play would be terrible IMO carp.

Oh, yeah!

Raptors news!!!!

Since you know better than anyone that nothing’s really done until it’s done and I’m told this is not quite done yet, take that under advisement.

But, there will be a non-guaranteed camp invite to Jamaal Magloire in the offing as there will be to Chris Wright, a 6-8 forward who spent some time last year with the Golden State Warriors.

Word on Wright is that he’s a tough-nosed competitor, offensively limited but if you have to practice against him every day, you better be ready to work because he will go at out at every turn.
