Portland Trail Blazers guard Jamal Crawford indicated Thursday he plans to opt out of his contract this summer and test the free-agent market.

Crawford stated his intentions in an interview with Seattle television station KING (via Portland radio station KXL).

"I'm a free agent, so I'm excited about what's there moving forward," Crawford said when asked about his future. "There will be a lot of teams out there with a lot of interest. I'll sit back after July (free agency begins July 1) and see what happens."

Crawford, 32, signed with the Blazers as a free agent before this past season. He averaged 14.0 points in 60 games but played just 26.9 minutes per game, his lowest figure since 2003.

The Blazers are Crawford's fifth NBA team; he also has played for the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks.

I would love to have him here, but he'll be asking for too much. At this point he's a 4-5mil/yr player.

that's all he took last year... you think he'd take a 4 year 20M deal? Would it be worth it? Too long? I think it's something we should consider

I would be surprised if he didn't try to get back to NY...he never wanted to leave there in the first place.

They have bigger fish to fry. They didn't have the money in december for him and they don't really have it now, and they have other issues, ie: Lin, offering Nash a contract, do they trade one of their high priced players.

Although I'll defend JB when starting, I will admit that he looks worse off the bench. Unless JB's starting at PG for the raps next season, I don't want him here. He most likely won't be here next year.

What do we need Jamal Crawford for? He's the type of player contenders sign to help push them over the top, not rebuilding teams that are far from playoff caliber.

He would just be taking minutes away from our young guys the way Barbosa did. Pass.

There is an argument to be made that with decent wings, we could be very competitive. If DD can become decent this year and add two more serviceable wings, who knows!

Name me a team that he was even remotely close to putting over the top? Atlanta was decent when he was there, but they were going nowhere significant. Portland sucks, NYK were brutal, maybe the Warriors....oh wait. What does he have 3 playoff appearances in 12 NBA seasons?

Lin and Novak are up for arbitration to have the Knicks receive their bird rights so that is irrelevant if it goes through. Nash is not going to go there - not to that dysfunction and not with how the Knicks treated D'antoni. Once Baron gets back into a groove and Lin is healthy the team could use Jamal's offense. The D will be horrible though.

I'm not saying the teams he's played for he put over the top, I'm saying he's the type of piece. I could see a team like Chicago picking him up, or even the Celtics.

Decent? LOL he did win Sixth Man of the Year and almost won it the following year - both in Atlanta. Atlanta also made waves in the play-offs - really thought they would have gone farther than the second round - Orlando was just too tough that year. Dark Knight makes a good point.
