![]() He says that, yes, he guarded Kobe for quite a bit of the game. Also says that him and a teammate went to Smitch saying that perhaps they should double Kobe, but Smitch decided to stick with single coverage (and also the zone). When Rose tried to post up Kobe, trying to make him work on the defensive end, Smitch pulled him out of the game because that wasn't part of the game plan.

![]() Maybe over the years my memory of the game has become distorted, but I recall Jalen ruining a good first half effort by a young team by coming out in the second half taking half-assed shots with no real effort to run back defensively which is why he was probably given a seat on the bench.
The game was a big joke to Jalen - most the games were; He was a disgrace to professional athletes and the game of basketball while in Toronto. But fuck he had some great moves in the low post. I spent hours immitating his footwork with the high-release - high-arcing shot. He had some of the most creative/unique footwork in the post near the end of his career. |

![]() I hope someone can find the gamethread. Before the game, I jokingly said Kobe would score 82, heh.
I remember raging at Smitch in the gamethread(moreso than my usual gamethread hate towards the clown). I already thought he was terrible, but this obviously put him over the top. To make no adjustments when a player gets that hot is just mind blowing. Any chance one of the mods can dig that gamethread up? Last edited by Ball Don't Lie; 10-02-2012 at 01:50 PM. |

I don't know how much fact or fiction is in these videos of his but even the previous one where he describes the 'fight' between Mitchell and VC showed his lackadaisical/nonchalant attitude while in Toronto. The coach gets knocked onto the ground by his player and all the other players including Rose are laughing. In any other workplace that would be considered insubordination and grounds for termination - nevertheless Rose being a veteran at that stage of his career should have intervened and never have let the issue escalate beyond pushing and shoving. |

![]() I remember the game pretty well. I remember Kobe played well, but I also remember he took every single shot that night, and the officials also helped him out a pretty disgusting amount. It's almost as if our generation cannot seem to find amazing enough things or events that we have to try to create them. I am in a minority, but I wasn't, and am not really impressed with this game, never will be.

![]() Jalen took a lot of Heat (and deservedly so) for his complete lack of attention to defense but he was a hell of a offensive weapon when he wanted to be. I remember when Mitchell took away his starting job he avgd 20+ off the bench as the 6th man. That would have been an ideal role for him. And like bjjs said... SICK post game for a guard.
Here's a fact that some might not remember about that 81-pt game.... It was actually one of the few game that Jack Nicholson missed (he wasn't there). Bet he was PISSED when he saw the outcome of that one hahaha.... |
