Default Jack: Top 5 Disappointing Teams

Agree or disagree?

Here's what Jack had to say:

1. Toronto Raptors - Sam Mitchell departs and Jay Triano is the new boss on sidelines, but the issues that hold this team back still exist. Inconsistent wing play has plagued this team throughout the season. The backup point guard situation has been inadequate on many nights, and the play of forward Andrea Bargnani has been puzzling from one game to the next -- not at all what I expected from him in his third year. The perimeter defence has been weak, though improved under Triano, and this is a poor rebounding team. Jermaine O'Neal has really come on of late and hopefully they continue to play inside/out and use their strengths as a power team, but this club needs to get better and more consistent at the wing and backup point positions to really be a legitimate playoff threat.

2. Philadelphia 76ers - Mo Cheeks got whacked with Tony Di Leo taking over, but this is a club that just needs to shoot it a lot better. They are last in three-point percentage and 27th in turnovers -- awful. You lose lots of games in this league when you're not skilled enough. With the addition of Elton Brand, expectations were high, yet it hasn't worked so far. Is this a running team or power team? Andre Iguodala has been disappointing and in general they seem to play uninspired ball on too many occasions. There is plenty of talent here (parts) but do they work where it counts (as a whole)?

3. Detroit Pistons - They moved Chauncey Billups to pick up Future Hall of Famer Allen Iverson and his expiring contract, yet it hasn't worked that well because he's too much of a scoring point guard and not enough of a quarterback. Michael Curry hasn't been as good so far as Flip Saunders, who took too much of the blame for this crew. Rasheed Wallace is in the final year of his deal and is a declining skills guy who can be a distraction to a team. They've been below average on both sides of the ball - 21st in points per game and 21st in opponent's FG percentage. This is still a capable club with Rip Hamilton, Tayshun Prince, Stuckey and company, but it's time to get this thing back on track. If they get things right, they can still be a dangerous out in the playoffs.

4. Golden State - What a mess! It all starts with Don Nelson. When I watch these guys, I'm not sure they know they're doing. It looks like a team playing pickup basketball at the Y. Not bad getting paid big bucks to throw the ball out, I guess. They've had their share of injuries (Monta Ellis and Corey Maggette in particular) but the defence is just awful -- last in NBA in points per game given up. When I see this team they lack discipline and structure. Regardless of injuries, they should be a lot better than this. There is talent on the roster. What a dramatic drop from a few years ago, and even last year when they contended in the final days for a playoff spot.

5. L.A. Clippers - They lost Elton Brand and Corey Magette to free agency and picked up Baron Davis, Marcus Camby and Ricky Davis. It hasn't worked. Baron Davis has been a bust. He looks out of shape and uninspired. This is a poor offensive team -- 29th in FG percentage and 3-point shooting percentage. Injuries have held this group back with Chris Kaman and Ricky Davis being banged up. Zach Randolph can score but does he make anyone better? In my opinion, no -- you don't win with guys like this. Mike Dunleavey is a good and capable coach. He's got his hands full trying to turn this around.

Philly has to be first. They had the most hype going into the season. They have the same record as us so they should be the most dissappointing team

Naw. As a Raptors fan, I am going to say that I am most disappointed in the Raptors. Still, two-thirds of the season remains and, hopefully, they can pick up the intensity.

i think we deserve 1st more than philly.

when philly was playing well last year, it was a "surprise". when we stumbled, it was due to "injury" and lockerroom "issues". simply put: more is/was expected out of toronto (and philly had dalembert go down for a while, too).

hm...thinking about it, maybe detroit deserves #1?

Nice of Jack to try to look at the bright side by suggesting that the perimeter defense has improved, but really - how the fuck has it improved?

WTH, it's not improved. It sucks. We run to close the gaps and the Perimeter players run right past us and score

Yeah - it hurts that Jack has to stretch the truth that badly even when he's being negative. What does that say about the state of this team?

i think he's always been the more honest of all the Raptors analysts.
i can only imagine the bullshit swirsky wouldve came up with to make fans feel better about this team.

Actually he had a good playoff series in Charlotte, then got a contract and laid eggs. It's a pattern.

Phoenix should be the first one in the list. Look at the Suns team. They have two MVP players in Nash and Shaq, they have arguably the best PF in the league in Amare, they have one of the best veteran player in Hill, they have one of the best sixth man in Barbosa, they have one of the best role player in Barnes and now they've gotten a star calibre SG in Richardson. Yet they even struggle to beat bloody Oklahama team. Who hired this Porter guy?

what did we expect from Golden State?

Did anyone think they would make the playoffs?

The rest of the teams are disappointing
