Arrow Jack Armstrong: It's time for the Raptors to get it done

Quote:
Only four winning teams/impact on Toronto Raptors: What a mess. The Celtics, Magic, Hawks and Cavs are very good/elite NBA teams at large. The rest of the conference has holes, issues, injuries, problems, lack of talent, etc.

I know the Toronto Raptors have been a significant disappointment so far but if the season ended today, the Raps would be the #8 seed in the playoffs. It's nothing to write home about yet better than last season.

After watching the teams in this conference in person or via TV, I strongly feel that the Raptors have the fifth best team in the East. Over the next 56 remaining games, the Raptors need to get their act in gear on a number of fronts (worn out talking about the defence, effort, toughness, Turkoglu inconsistency, Evans & Calderon injuries, etc.) and get to where they belong, based upon the talent level that exists.

It's one thing to have talent on 'paper'; it's another thing to actually 'get it done'. It's time to start getting it done. I still think this is a 43-45 win team which should get them 5th/6th in the East. Am I sold that they'll come through on that prediction? After watching this team for 26 games, I honestly don't know what to expect night to night. Every team has challenges during a season--it's how you respond to them. Respond!!

No Jack. Charlotte would be no. 8. The Raptors have the better winning percentage, but they're tied with Charlotte in the standings, as they're both 4 wins under .500. And Charlotte leads the head-to-head series.

Think Jack is right that 5th still a target.
The only chance for Raptors to get to second round is playing Cleveland.
A good match for Toronto's talent.

I think based on talent we are 3-5, with atlanta and the cavs. With a great defensive coach, this team would be 16-10 now, or even better.

Lebron would be a nightmare for Rap D in a playoff round. However it is also true that Atlanta, Boston and Orlando would be even worst.
In the end I guess Raptors have no chance to get to second round, but I hope to be wrong.
For what concerns regular season, anything below the final 6th seed would be disappointing.

It's hard to take any of our commentators seriously, as their opinion is obviously influenced by their vested interest in keeping their jobs and their livelihood for that matter.

Commentators on TNT like Barkley, Chris Webber, and Kenny Smith are more objective and tell it how it is. They've made their money, they're respected, and they don't have to worry if they say anything offensive. They don't care if they get canned, which allows them to state the truth no matter how ugly it is.

As much as I would like to believe the Raptors are capable of becoming a 5th seed, realistically we would be fighting for that 7th and 8th seed spot.

We are definitely not better than Charlotte or Philly would who have otherwise been out of the running had they not acquired Stephen Jackson or Iverson. Indiana and Milkwaukee are capable of splitting games and would be right on our heels in the playoffs run.

Our only saving grace now is if Triano has the guts to keep Calderon off the bench even when he is healthy. It is clear Jose has always been the defense issues we have, since he is our first line of defense in terms of dribble penetration. We are clearly playing better with Jarret Jack starting.

I think we need to start playing better only to get the 7th seed, we definitely won't be 5th even if all cylinders are running as they should.

I think everything is determined by this summer if we get to 5th, 7th, or 8th. If Bosh staying or leaving and BC getting the job done again by getting us better player that plays D, also we'll see if Reggie is our key guy to come help us become a better team in the toughness and defensive end of the game. Also Jose stop acting like he's hurt always because i'm sick of what he did last year and doing again this year. After watching Micheal Beasley today for the first time in my mind I hope BC somehow get's him ^_^

sorry Jack... team has individual talent on paper with lack of intangibles that you need like accountability, professionalism and will to win.

This is a 36 win team and 10-11 seed.

Have you looked at the standings, Philly is shit even with Iverson, lost their last 10 games I think. Indiana is also shit, but the Bucks have a good young team and a legit shot at placing 5th.
