Jack Armstrong on the Fan 590 Criticizes Point guard play

Quote:

If had to pick one thing, the point guard play should be an absolute major strenght of this team, and isn't.

Quote:

Not just offensively have they struggled but defensively, Lowry gambles a lot, classic riverboat gambler, will get you stats but that exposes defence.
Quote:

At times he doesnt compete hard enough defensively, trying to get a steal, trying to hit the home run too much
Quote:

Calderon tries hard, but can't do it, hard time keeping people in front of him, but not lack of effort.
Quote:

Offensively, they zone out, jose is affected when he's not starting, and it impacts his performance, lowry of late has been passive, its one thing to put it on cruise control in the first half then try and be a hero in the 2nd half, ya you end up getting big numbers and your team pats you on the back, but you still lost.
Quote:

Whos the leader on this team? There isnt a leader, suppose to be Lowry and Calderon, they are your lead guards, and they are not leading.

Tried to quote as much as I could, and some other stuff about talent level and being better than Charlotte, Detroit, and Orlando yet not record wise.

Can't disagree :(

Jack knows what he's talking about

-Calderon isn't the same player coming off the bench
-Lowry on some nights is purely a stats padder, he will get the numbers, but that doesnt benefit the teams chances of winning. He also go's into hero mode after being non-existent for certain stretches, and tries to do it all himself.

Didn't Bayless put up amazing numbers in that stretch of games when Calderon was out with the ankle injury, yet people still wanted him gone?

Then we'll be forced to listen to Leo EVERY GAME. Terrible, terrible idea.

MikeToronto 12-11-2012 03:19 PM

Jack said as much during the game vs. Portland as well.

Alex 12-11-2012 03:20 PM

I don't think Jack is NBA calibre, no offense to him.

creative1mm 12-11-2012 03:29 PM

I wouldn't want him to be the coach.. he is right all the time lol, on point with all he is saying, but I think it's easier to view the game as an analyst

I thought Buck Martinez was going to be an amazing coach for the Blue Jays since he was so good as a baseball broadcaster/analyst.. but when he got behind the bench he sucked

LuffyGear2 12-11-2012 03:42 PM

i really like him as an analyst, he really knows the game of basketball and seems like a really nice guy; but imagining him as the coach of an nba team, come on :cookie:

I know Jack personally, he doesn't want to coach the Raptors & he admitted it on air plenty of times.

Pat Riley went from the booth to coach the Lakers. But maybe we should find the next Magic Johnson first.

hell, maybe we should find the next anyone from that team. I'm stuck between a hard place and a rock, is it the talent? or is it roles or the coach? confusion all around/

I mentioned Magic, because he was instrumental in demanding that he wouldn't play for their current coach, and he made it pretty easy for a new coach to succeed.

never knew that. Thought you were referring to the talent level on this team and that jack says he wouldn't coach the raptors since not even a great coach like riley could get this team winning and that casey is a scapegoat, like most coaches on losing teams. regardless, both points can be valid

Stating the truth shouldn't be offensive. Besides, he looks like Mr. Potato head.
