Default Italian Paper Reporting That Messina To Be Raptors Next Head Coach

Today an Italian newspaper wrote that Messina will be the next Raptors head coach.
The deal is done but they must wait before officialising it.

If I understand, they mean next season, and quote Gherardini that the deal is decided.
Well its the perfect fit for Raptors, and certainly a coach who won a lot and will win more.

is there like a verbal agreement and wait for what?

i dont doubt at all that he might be our next coach. but even with his credentials, he still doesn't have any nba experience. i'd rather go with an experienced nba coach.

seems very reputable.

must suck for triano. that's a lot of pressure. they've already got a replacement if he fails this season.

i'm disliking this whole thing every day. why couldnt bc just get a new coach earlier this summer? he said it was an accumulation of things that lead to his firing. last year's results were enough. changing coach within a season is brutal. and now we might have another change in less than a year.

I don't like it. We see the problems European players have adjusting to the NBA, won't a coach experience a similar problem? Also the paper quotes Gheardini not Colangelo, if it is true I can see B.C. being really pissed at Gheardini. I don't think it enhances our prospects of bringing top talent to our team in 2009 or 2010 either and might discourage Bosh from resigning.

It just doesn't make much sense to me.

I have serious doubt about this and if it happens I would suggest Chris Bosh is as good as gone. There is no way that happens in my view. Well I would say it is highly doubtful

Bosh good as gone? I would definately say Messina is a much better coach than Mitchell ever will be. He is a great tactitian and worked with the likes of Coach K and Coach Brown of the Cavs. Messina took CSKA to greatness and also did a very good job with Treviso. Yes he is a "Euro Coach" and it would be a little bit unorthodox if he just jump in into the frey of the NBA. However; to totally dismiss Messina is rather ignorant

What if Bosh actually gave Messina a chance, liked him, and decided he'd like to stay? Did anyone ever think of that?

I don't think Chris Bosh has an undying hate towards any and all things Italian like we're making it seem...

From what I read in the newpaper posts Triano is getting the rest of the season to audition for the head coaching job. If he is successful why would B.C. trade a well respected, well liked Canadian coach who the players are familiar with and who is familiar with the style of play in the NBA with a European coach who has no history with any of the players except Bargs and no NBA experience. That is why I think that rumour is bunk.

1. Sams contract: He had to give sam one more shot, he failed and now his is gone. Its kinda hard to fire a coach on a 4 year contract at teh end of the first year.
2. "Interm"- triano knows that unless he gets to second round or con finals he is gone anyways, whats why he is the interm head coach. Obviously there is gonna be a replacemnt and he knows it unless he turns into a huge winning coach.

This is not tabloid junk, it's a reputable national newspaper.
They changed the on-line article a little bit a made it longer, now it says that Toronto want Messina as their coach for the next season and it seems that things will go this way but they can't talk about it at this time.
It's written that Gherardini never considered Mitchell a capable coach and both him and Colangelo couldn't bear him anymore.
It's also written that Colangelo said: "The problem is not if Messina will come to the NBA, but when."

If Triano fails then Messina will be a good candidate. He is a great coach. He achieved everything a coach can in the Euro zone. If it works out, he will also be a gain for the NBA too.

When I harshly suggested yesterday to fire Triano from head coach job, still keep him as assistant and hire a better coach, most of you laugh ... yet after just one day, most of you are on "Messina as head coach" bandwagon. How weird is that? At least it didn't took you to long to realize what's good for Raptors, not what's good for Triano.
