Irving is overrated, at least we wont be picking first so we have a shot at Kemba.

How so? Irving can pass penetrate and can hit contested J's. If Irving played 3 years at Duke he would of put up unbelievable stats as well.

Jose can do all those as well. Irving doesn't play defense either so hes more like Calderon in that category too. Irving = Calderon.

I'll say it again, how is any player in this draft overrated when it's deemed one of the worst drafts in history and none of these players have been touted as guaranteed future stars.

Who deemed it one of the worst in history? And does a lack of being touted as guaranteed future stars guarantee that they won't become future stars?

Exaggeration, but it's been talked about all over the place as one of the weakest drafts in years. Is that news to you?

Did i say it did? My point wasn't saying there will not be any stars. But that for someone to be called overrated, wouldn't there have to be much higher expectations for a player as a star, or at least more of a consensus?

I don't remember a year when that hasn't been said. Even drafts that produce a superstar tend to be noted for weakness after the number one pick. It is rare when a draft class gets hyped as being particularly strong. So it simply matters very little.

As for a player being over-rated, I think from all that has been said of Irving, that there is ample room for him to be over-rated. I would hope not, but it's entirely possible.

Now time for Barnes to declare. Some hope for the Raps. At least if the Raps do get the No. 1 overall pick, there is a clear-cut no. 1 candidate. Unlike the mystery of 2006. Thank-you Austin Rivers for choosing Duke.

I agree, it's said every year. In fact in the past people here have said it and i've said the same thing (it's the same every year). But it really seems to be moreso a consensus this year then most. I believe there will be players that will surprise and this draft won't be anywhere near as bad as some think. As for Irving being overrated and over hyped.....the hype on him is a lot less then in past #1's. It seems to me that right now Kemba is more hyped. My point was that he's the #1 pick (probably) in a so called weak draft that most think he may or may not become a star. Time will tell i guess.

2004, 2007, 2009 weren't really touted as "worst ever" because they had solid #1 options. 2003, of course, was one of the best drafts in history.

2008 was touted as "2-deep" - Rose and Beasley.

It's definitely possible that Irving will be overrated. He could be anywhere from a DJ Augustin - level backup to the poor man's Chris Paul - he's just played so few games and is still so raw that it's very difficult to tell.

-----

In my opinion, this is looking like one of the worst drafts coming up. Irving is a big boost, and Barnes coming out would be another big deal for the draft (though so far he looks merely like a better Marvin Williams), and I do like Kemba Walker, but otherwise the draft looks extremely weak. So many of the teams that made it far in the NCAA tourney have few if any NBA-calibre players. With so many players leaving early, the NCAA game has suffered big time, and the level of play is noticeably lower than eras past when good players would stay for 3-4 years.

I used some hyperbole bball, and with your use of bolding my obvious hyperbole, I might have to call you bballbuster. Of course I did say that it is rare to have draft classes rated highly. And in some of those that you listed, there were cries of the draft not being all that deep, which is pretty close to the same hyperbole of crying out about historically weak choices.

Irving is known as a good defender and changed the way Duke played defense by allowing them to apply full court pressure. The guy has many skills that will translate well in the NBA and is a much better decision maker then Kemba.

I did also from the 4-5 games I saw of him this year at Duke. Also reading a lot of reports they say he is a good defender.
