Default Interesting Quote from ESPN Magazine

This is interesting, take a sec to read it. It is kind of funny because it would seem as though teams are more worried about 2010 and not their current season.

Courtesy of dagger from the RealGM.

Players who otherwise would have been tasty trade bait by now – Vince Carter, Josh Howard, Kirk Hinrich, Chris Kaman and Jason Richardson, to name a few – have stayed put because no one wants to take on hefty contracts that run beyond the summer of Lebron.

Which raises this question: If a championship is the No. 1 priority, shouldn't some teams be taking advantage of the current stagnation?... "You're better off spending now when there's less competition," says one West exec, "that is, if your motivation is to win."

The Cavs, Suns, Mavs and Raptors are four teams that can go either way... All are one quality player away from being serious title contenders... Only the Raptors, though, claim to be looking aggressively to bolster their roster now... GM Bryan Colangelo says he would happily give up his place at the free agent table two years from now for an upgrade today. "I'm a realist," he says. "There are only three prize guys, and we're trying to keep one of them (Bosh). I'm in the market to do something."

Of course, only Colangelo knows if he is just talking a front office version of false hustle. Several GMs says most owners are toying with fans by making them think they are preparing to chase the Class of '10 when their real goal is to cut costs. "It's a good way to be cheap," says a GM. "Pretending to do something."

That's a bold accusation. But there's a simple way to refute it."

It's a shell game. And it's pretty sad for the league. July 1 2010 is going to like christmas? I usually ended up breaking toys and bawling on christmas. I probably would have hung myself with a slinky if I had waited two years for it to arrive.

There are going to be ALOT of disappointed fans come 2010 (esp. in N.Y. if they don't get anyone) .... this is getting out of hand too... almost feels like it's bordering on "tampering".

Thats what I said yesterday and its good me and Colangelo are on the same wavelength. 15+ teams are all going to be after LBJ, D Wade, Amare and Johnson at least 10 teams will be disapointed. Make moves now when every team is willing to shed cap space. The only concern for 2010 should be Bosh.

Interesting if those BC quotes about being active now are true...again can't see what he has as assets but this is the guy that turned Hoffa into Hump.

I've been saying it for a while, for everyone who isn't a big market team they'd be much better taking advantage of the 2010 sellers and start gunning for 2011, which is almost as good.

Kobe
Melo
Yao
Gasol
David West (maybe Chandler if he keeps his 12 mil in 2010)
Tony Parker
Jason Richardson
30+ Josh Howard
30+ Redd
30+ Richard Jefferson
30+ Caron Butler
old Carter
old Pierce - definitely not leaving Boston though
old Billups
very old Ray Allen

+ the entire Oden/Durant draft class

And there's a possibility Bron/Wade/Bosh take their options in 2010 and go to 2011, too

The Melo thing will be interesting, I think he's like a LOCK to bolt Denver.

I think our roster is set for the rest of the season.

Next Summer should also be another interesting off-season.

bc still has the two exceptions, so there might be some opportunities before march to get some veterans waived for cost saving reasons.
