Default Interesting Little Tidbit on Delfino

Saw this at the RealGM this morning and just thought I'd share.

Obviously this has nothing to do with Josh, but because Delfino is also an RFA and we extended a qualifying offer already, if and when he comes back to the NBA from Europe (actually Russia) we'll still retain his rights. So, considering he's still young he might he a nice addition to the team 3 years from now if he decides to come back. Gains what could be some valuable experience overseas considering basketball talent is improving every year and in 3 years we could be looking for some veteran experience.

Just something to think about.

If Bryan for whatever reason has withdrawn the qualifying offer then he becomes a FA. If not we will still hold his rights. I hope he can still bring him back to TO.

Really like this idea, wish he was only there for a few seasons. With Parkers contract coming off the books in a couple years delfino would be a solid addition who already understands our system.

I didn't wanna see him go but I guess he's all about money. I think what the Raps should've done was not re-sign Moon and try to get him back. I mean I'd take this guy over moon any ball game. He drives whenever he gets the chance, has better FG%, ball-handling, something 6'8 Moon couldn't do.

He was my favorite player off the bench last season, along with Kapono. It sucks that we couldn't bring him back.

I'd take moon over Delfino. If you examine the pros and cons, they come about even. But, remember that Moon is bargain basement cheap. Moon has A LOT to play for this season, his contract year.

Delfino on the otherhand, played himself out of a mle contract, by taking poor shots and being inconsistant.

Moon was a chucker who didn't shoot well at all from 3 (31%) and didn't go to the hoop.I like him, but if he doesn't start going to the rim he better be working on his shot, especially the 3, or take more mid range shots. All i know is that everytime he jacked up 3's i got extremely nervous.

You don't have to be all about the money to know you're worth more than a minimum contract, which is all the Raptors could give him.

You can't "not re-sign" a guy whos contract hasn't run out. Moon has another year left on his deal. So unless you want to suffer a cap penalty to buy out a minimum salary player who contributes more than guys making MLE cash, I don't know why you'd consider that.

Furthermore, even if they could have let Moon walk, his salary is like $775,000. That's like half of the veterans minimum. Getting Moon's contract off the books wouldn't even have given Toronto enough money to offer Delfino the minimum, let alone the contract he deserved.

And I'll take Moon's understanding that he is the last offensive option over Delfino's belief that he's a misused all star any day.

A chucker is someone who shoots a lot.

Moon averaged fewer shots per minute than anyone on the team last year besides Baston.

Fewer than Rasho. Fewer than Hump. Fewer than Primoz. Fewer than Joey.

I didn't check...but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Moon averaged amongst the fewest FGA's per minute of all the players in the league who logged 2000 minutes.

I'm perplexed how Moon can't shoot a lick.

Please explain.

His shot was no more inconsistent than say...Carlos Delfino.

31% from 3, 75% from the free throw line is pretty damn bad for a wing.

Yeah, he was inconsistent and quite frankly looked scared shooting the ball sometimes as a lot of rookies do. His mechanics are fine though, which to me says he'll be better the more comfortable he becomes...

Delfino shot a lower FT% and shot under 40% from the floor. Would you say he can't shoot a lick?

Yes, yes I would say that.

Moon does have good mechanics and with proper training he can become and adequate shooter. Hopefully his training this sumer is lots of shooting drills and lots of ballhandling drills. I can see Moon becoming a Tayshawne Prince type of player and that would be perfect for the team.

Or Scottie Pippen type of player...

Who BTW was a career 32% 3 point shooter and 70% FT shooter.

I'm not worried about Moon one bit. It was his rookie season. Don't worry. a lot of rookies are afraid to shoot cause they don't wanna look bad if they miss and it'll be a bad first impression. Moon is gonna be alrite this year. It's a new year and he's in his 2nd year.

I like Delfino, but Moon is more consistant: I rather a guy who does a few things in a consistant basis than a guy who can do a lot of things but no all the days.

How do you rate Delfino? Looking at his bad days or the good ones? If you look at what he can do in a consistant basis, he isn't that better than Moon, he just can give you somedays some extra things.

IMO, there is nothing worse than thinking that you have what you need till you look for it and discover you hadn't it.
