Default An Interesting Kapono Stat

Just saw this courtesy of supersub at the RealGM regarding Kapono's last 25 games and there's one glaring stat that really stands out.

Cost of every 3-pointer made in those last 25 games: $408,231.70
Come' on Sam ... enough is enough ... please find a way to utilize Kapono instead of letting him rot on the bench.

I wondered about that too.. like come-on, the guy's a 2-time 3-point champ. He can hit those shots. It was frustrating last night to see guys like Jamario and TJ brick shots all night.

i dunno man... ive been watching kapono for the last little while and he hasnt been able to hit anything...
i think he's getting his changces, but bricks most attempts, so he gets slapped back on the bench.
if he cant help us on the offence, he'll be a D liability.

the guy is a career like 8ppg guy, i dont know what u guys expecting of him, 10 treys a game? I think he should get more PT perhaps, he needs to step up his D a bit. But i see him as nothing more then an overpaid roll player.

Winning a 3point contest doesnt mean your actually good in a real game btw... ppl need to stop bringing that up like it proves anything but that he practices more with those racks then he practices on Ding ppl up.

Free Kapono, i totally agree, if BC can find some1 to take his overblown contract off our hands im all for it!

Winning a 3pt contest means absolutly nothing I agree..

Being the best 3pt shooter by percent in history, absolutley does.

ill half agree, but if i went in2 a game and shot 4 treys and hit 3 i would technically be the best percentage 3 point shooter in history?

I think having a lower percent, but a higher PPG off it, and being more deadly creating your own shot etc is much more important then just overall percentage. I think its a joke ppl say Kapono is "the greatest 3 point shooter in nba history"... when he doesnt take nearly as many 3s or score as many points per as the truely great 3 point shooters in history. Now i know your arguement he needs more "shats" to prove it. But he isnt Reggie Miller at the end of the day, or JBird or hell even Dan Marlee (SP) or Steve Kerr even... he is just a bit roll player that can play a few min a game and hit a high percentage of shots if you only give him a few, he has yet to prove in his career he is more then that.

think he'd be leading in percentages if he took more than 2-3 a game?

I don't think Kapono is any good, never have.

He ain't horrible, but he really shouldn't start in the NBA.

Fantastic perimeter threat. Very questionable defense. Runs like his pants are around his ankles.

But I'd still be playing him more minutes.

I think someone of the Raptors coaching staff should try and teach him some stuff about moving without the ball and getting open. I mean I'm sure TJ and Jose know he isn't taking any 3s, he's just open never outside the arc, and Jason is smart enough to know that if he's covered at all, he's not hitting the shot so he better not take it.

I really think he needs to play with Jose. Really, the timeline points to it. When he was the starter at the very beginning of the year with TJ, he sucked. He then went to the bench with Jose and was good. When TJ went down and Jose started/Jason played with Dmart, he sucked. And since TJ's came back, it's still not clicking. Now that's nothing against Ford, I just think that as enticing Ford giving him kick-outs is, it just doesn't work in like it does in theory.

It's not that easy.
There's a certain number of threes one must take (or make) before being eligible for that record. So hitting 3 out of 4 threes in your career won't make you the best percentage 3 point shooter, because plainly, you haven't shot enough threes.

obviously i was kidding about 3 of 4... but Kap doesnt shoot but 2 or 3 treys a game compared to many guys who shot a helluva lot more. Kap has never been a starter in this league on a regular basis or gotten more then 26 min per game in his career, so at best its a tainted stat, at worst its really really really misleading to how good he really is.

When Kapono is on the court, you know that his defender isn't going to double team Bosh. That should be used.

Bosh will almost never pass out of a double team, and when he does, very rarely will pass to an open guy - he usually kicks it to the nearest guy. Compare Chris stats with other big guys, KG, Duncan, Nowitzki etc. We have MORE shooters, who shoot higher percentages then their teams, but Chris has far fewer assists then either of these 3.
