Question Impressions of Devlin

So, I know some commented on Matt during the game last night, but for those who don't want to go through that entire game thread to read what everyone had to say about his first game behind the mic, is he a "yay" or "nay"?

It doesn't help that he had Sherman beside him last night too. That guy makes me want to tear my ears out.

He did a fine job. He wasn't over the top which was a welcomed change. If people want a circus show, watch the Bulls. I'm happy with the way the game was called.

i was very impressed.
i didnt even know it was him, and i said to myself "who's commentating? he's not bad"....
sherman hamilton is lame, and i didnt even mind him much last night becuase devlin picked up the slack.

i'll be the first to say that i miss the Chuckster, but Devlin will be a fine replacement.

From what I heared in the youtube videos, I think he was OK. But like Insight pointed, it may be too soon to judge.

BORRRRRRINNNGGGG! SO dry and lame. Chuck was an entertainer and you need that kind of theatricality in a market like this. This guy is plain white toast and it was rough to listen to. No excitement in him whatsoever. Chuck would have gone nuts over the nate and chandler dunks. Maybe it'll be a nice contrast when Jack gets in there, but him and Leo will be HORRENDOUS!!!!!

I watched the NY feed so I could hear Clyde Frazer. He is DA MAN in my books. Great sense of timing and humor. And so fricken smooth. He has been there and done that, but doesnt show off.

I'll catch Devlin next time.

Edit: Game in an hour is on. I'll check in.

He is not as flashy but also not as annoying as Swirsk was.

Devlin is your everyday 'run of the mill' play by play guy.

it was a preseason game against the knicks. that in itself is what was boring. if devlin had gotten all amped up over this game it would have been entirely false and disingenuous - like chuck. this is exactly the point. chuck would have over-dramatized that game to the point of ridiculousness. in the end i would never have believed his made up enthusiasm. if it is a great play, give me an 'oh baby what a play', but when it's just a simple layup you can't do that. creating hype when there is none spoils the moments when there actually is hype.

you really think devlin will sound like that in the midst of an eciting game in a playoff race?

be real, know the game, have fun when it is appropriate. that's what is necessary. chuck was an actor - a meat puppet. devlin is a boadcaster.

I find the game itself entertaining enough.

I don't need a bald, little cirucus monkey jumping through hoops and juggling stuff.

I liked Devlin. He's not going to get all pumped up about the second preseason game, and his first Raptors broadcast. I like him, I think once the regular season comes he will bring energy like chuck. minus- the bald head and weird teeth.
