Impressions of Derozan at the halfway mark....What do you expect for second half?

Ok, we've seen Demar Derozan for essentially a half season so far (41st game tomorrow) and i was wondering how happy you all are with his progress? And what do you expect from him in the second half?

IMO he's continuously got better as the season has gone on, with a few bad games in between, which is to be expected. But considering he's only 20yrs old, i'm optmistic with what i see from him.

His numbers so far:

8.1ppg- 2.8rpg- 0.7apg-.63spg (20mpg)

Now looking at those numbers, it's pretty much what i expected, except for the rebounds which i thought would be around 4-5per... But overall i've really loved watching his progression especially in the last 3-4 weeks.

He's very coachable, great attitude, loves the game and works hard while wanting to get better. I'm really liking this kid and think he'll be a good player here going forward.

Thoughts?

His confidence is going to be up. I want to see him drive to the basket and finish with authority. I expect his defence to be a lot better now i.e. blocking shots, getting steals, deflecting passes etc. If he can get to the line consistently like he did yesterday then he will definatley be top 5 rookies this year.

DeMar's ceiling is very high. Looking at last night's game, he can only excel. He put up good shots, and seems very comfortable with the coaching scheme. Hopefully he'll blossom to an Iquodala type

I think his ceiling is higher than Iguodala. But if he turns out as good as Iguodala Im happy. He's playing great on offense for a guy who is a 5th option and he is one of our better defenders (which isnt saying much). He seems to be working very hard on his game which is great for a guy with that much potential.

On a side note, I dont really get why everyone is demanding we trade for a shooting guard. In terms of shooting guard position we have good depth and is actually one of the strengths on our team. I think Demar should keep the starting position and let him flourish. SF is where our weakness is and if we can get an upgrade over Mr. Pizza its great news.

I want him to drive more
I want him to put more intensivity in his dunks
being a better defender
I wouldn't like him to go to another team

No T-Mac or VC
Shown effort, good talent, good elevation - Can be a pretty good player if he keeps to the straight & narrow!

Defences havent zoned in on him with CB and AB on the floor.

You might even say he's the 5th offensive option.

He's crafty around the basket and can draw alot of fouls, and that alone will help his numbers night-in and night out.

If/when the league wakes up to DD, it'll be interesting to see how he fares.

My opinion is that he deserves more second half, and more specifically 4th quarter minutes.

I like the fact that when he goes to the hoop, he's under control and doesn't commit many offensive fouls.

I feel he has lots of potential to be honust just needs the ball more along with more minutes, because he is the only shooting gaurd thats strong enough to continue to take a chance and throw his body and get to the rim. I am happy with this pick for sure!

I made a similar comment about DD while I watched him in the pre-season .... he looks like a kid playing against men. He looks smaller than what his physical stats indicate.
Given his age, he will and should bulk up and start hammering the boards on both ends. If he is able to do this, then he may get to the next level.

He's a tough kid ... gets hit and keeps on getting up. With additional size/strength, his finishing will get better and the other teams may stop hammering him as often.

If he doesn't get stronger, he will continue to work on his shot and become a perimeter player and never hit his potential.

He'll get better as the season goes on. I'd love for him to become the type of player like in NYK on Friday. I think he can develop into that and become consistent at it too

DeRozan should definitely gain confidence after the Dunk contest - it doesn't matter if he wins or not. There's a long history of young, athletic players making a big leap a year or two after the dunk contest - Iguodala, Josh Smith, T-Mac, J-Rich, etc.
