Lightbulb I'm kind of glad the deal fell through

I may be in the minority, but I want our young bigs to get lots of burn and I think Bargs is best left at C with the potential of becoming a poor man's Sabonis. Adding Diaw and Chandler would've meant less time for Amir and Davis and I don't see how their development would benefit from that and then subsequently how the Raptors long term outlook benefis.

You think you're in the majority?

Anyway. The only bigs i want getting minutes out of who we currently have is Bargnani/Amir/Davis. We needed this trade pretty badly imo. And now we need another deal somehow that is simular in nature if at all possible.

I suppose the glass is still a quarter full, but I liked the idea of a true center down the middle, expiring THIS year. All I wanted was a TASTE of a true centre on this team, just a taste, fuck diaw.. but chandler! god dangit.

I agree. Chandler was the key component in the trade but I think Amir Johnson can provide a similar presence. Diaw was potentially a good pickup but his declining stats over the last couple of years suggest that he was somewhat of a risk. Let's not forget the merits of this trade were based predominantly on monetary issues. Jose Calderon loves Toronto and despite his defensive shortcomings, he is still the best backup point guard in the NBA and capable of being a starter on many clubs as well...

I guess so, but we still have to get rid of Jose.

Oops.

Actually, I meant minority.

Why do we need this deal pretty badly? You guys are like crackheads who need a fix. Relax and enjoy the summer. There's plenty of time to re-tool the roster...like three or four years...

i was hoping that chandler was a key part of the process in dumping Bargnani for a young guard. i could do without diaw, but i would have been really freakin happy if tyson was a raptor.

we needed a center, Bargs is definitely not one, he's a pf. i'm still hoping BC can bring in a young defensive center, we can help develop his offensive game if we need it later.

given the minutes, amir might be able to provide similar stats, but he won't be able to have an effective defensive presence like tyson has. amir's an undersize power forward, we don't need that at center.

the Bobcats were the best defensive team in the NBA last year and were willing to trade two starters for a back-up PF and a rarely healthy "starting" PG.

Not to mention their contracts were cheap and short term.

If BC had pulled that trade off he would've deserved some kind of award.

Bargs is becoming a very good offensive centre and he already is a pretty good one-on-one defender at the position. His problems as help defender and rebounder do not make him "not a centre"!

Same here man. I didn't really see the point of that deal, for the same reasons you've outlined. Sure, Chandler would have been that 'true C' everyone's wanted, but he's too injury prone to be a long term solution - and if he is not a long term solution, he is nothing more than someone taking PT away from guys who are a long term solution.

As for Diaw the same thing. Not a better option than Kleiza or Weems, just another guy to bloat the rotation without providing upside.

BTW, can anyone tell me why Jordan went for the Dallas' deal? Just to be able to dump more salary this season? 'Cause I don't see him starting Augustin...

BC already did that for you with Alabi.... boom. And Bargs is widely recognized as a 4/5... depending on which teams they face and what other players will be on the floor with him. No need to be so rigid with defining positions.

I agree with both Acie and JeffB for different reasons.... Chandler could bring a dynamic game changer on the defensive end that we don't have, yet more time for Amir, Davis, Alabi is only going to help.

We're paying Amir 6-7 mil a season to grab boards and play D.. so why shouldn't we start him and see what he can do? I'm excited for that. When they played together last year, they were pretty solid.
