I'm going to go out on a limb and say .....

..... that I could be the back-up to Jose Calderon right now. Darrick Martin has no right to be playing in the NBA any longer and if any of you are watching this afternoon's performance by him so far I challenge you to disagree.

Great basketball mind to have, but just sickening to watch have to watch. Talk about momentum killer, well that Darrick Martin.

Hurry up BC, we can't wait for PG insurance much longer. :(

I think I might have to disagree....

No question DMart has no business in the NBA, but I'm not sure we want a 30+ non-pro athlete as his back up... No offense Doc, but... um... I think the Raps could do better than a head-hunter from the Ottawa area, even if he is a great RF mod.
:D

Bring it on bitch ... If I can't beat them with my lack of speed, I sure know how to play dirty. A buddy of mine and myself didn't have the nickname "Thump & Bump" back in high school for nothing. I'd be a helluva lot more productive than Martin will ever be at this point in his career. ;)

'trane 01-13-2008 02:49 PM

Y'know Doc, that's actually a good point. If we're going to throw a shitty player at the point, at least he could play tough and dirty.

Why the f*** can't Dixon do that?

I was more depressed about Bargnani. I didn't even notice Darrick. But the team made up for both them. And I am happy.

Yeah, I've stopped caring at this point LX. I was extremely upset over the last couple weeks, but anything more than 5 or 6 points per game and 5+ rebounds is considered a pleasant surprise now-a-days for Andrea. :(

I want Andrea out of the starting unit. Bring him off the bench.

I'm thinking they should shut him down completely until he shows some kind of hunger that can last for more than three minutes.

You have any better ideas? I know - let's just insist that he's better than Bosh.

I'm sick of the excuses.

It's not about confidence, because he showed all that he needs to against the Spurs for instance.

It's not about nagging injuries or viruses as far as I can tell.

It's not about coming off the bench - he's starting.

It's not even about playing as a Center, because Bosh has been covering his ass in that regard all season. And he still goes out and kills this team today. They deserved to have an eight point lead early in the third, but the Mago sucked all the goodness out of what the other four guys on the floor were doing, and presto - they were down by six.

It's purely mental. Maurizio said as much on the FAN last week, and even that was meant to be an excuse. SO just give the guy the chance to get his mind together - in practice. Test his desire to actually play in games. And set the bar extremely low. Just look for the hunger. If that desire is there then I can take him looking worse than Hoffa on some nights. But if he looks like he doesn't really want to be there, then what's the point?

I would like to see them bring in a Big Man mentor for him, of the ilk of Ewing. Look at what you are doing different with him this year....They are trying to turn him into something he just isnt ready to be...But be carfeul with him, don't Darko him.

I'm with LX on this one Benzo ..... he doesn't deserve it right now. There's a difference with actually physically playing hard and then there's coasting. He's at least trying on offense which I can appreciate, but there's no effort on defense especially rebounding. He rarely boxes out, he just puts a hand floating out there so he can feel for where the opposing players it. He's afraid to be aggressive.

I want Sam to handle Andrea like he does Jamario. If Jamario does something passive on defense or rebounding, he gets up into his face and yells at him to push or fight back. I don't see him do that with Andrea anymore. He used too, but its kind of like he giving up on Bargnani right now. :(

Kuzzy 01-13-2008 05:34 PM

west humber :)
aaha there not the greatest these days.

Jesus he has a long ways to go before he's Darko. And it's actually his offense that bothers me the most. He is not acting like part of the whole. His screens are always half-assed and slow to come. His shots are rushed. His passes are incomprehensible at times. But if he manages to ease up and just let the game come to him he contributes plenty, and even shows some chemistry with Bosh.

So I'm guessing his mental state cannot hack Sam getting in his face, and if that were to happen, he would probably just use it as an excuse. He simple has to set the bar low from this point, forget about being the talk of the town, and wipe out all excuses, along with his own recognition of his bad play. He just has to feel the hunger to play, whether it's good play or bad, like Jamario has for years now, and then he can get to where he will be able to show something.

I dunno. Basically the guy just needs time, but he's not giving himself a fair shot at gaining from the time he's being given right now. How he goes and builds upon his performance against Duncan by playing like he has since, is beyond me.

ClingRap 01-13-2008 06:12 PM

i was sitting there watching the game today, and the way bargs has been playing, the whole situation is Hoffa-esque. he's performing the same mistakes, albeit from not hammering people but rather making mental errors. someone made a comment in the game thread about bargs not catching any breaks from the refs. what has he done to merit any?
this guy blows defensive assignments and commits stupid fouls. HE TAKES HIMSELF OUT OF THE GAME! I know the message being sent is that this guy is the future, but i couldn't help but be reminded of Babcock's insistence on starting hoffa when he clearly was in over his head in terms of game speed and intellect. We're starting someone who clearly zones out when the coaching staff is telling him where to be on defense and to not reach on a centre standing beyond the three point line.
People are hoping too hard on this guy. Im done giving him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe something will click.

Jay 01-13-2008 10:07 PM

Come on man, you can't say Hoffa and Bargnani in the same sentence! Come on! That's a little much right now. Until you see Bargnani do something like THIS, you can't bring up Hoffa.

LX 01-13-2008 10:10 PM

He does have too many good games, all around good games, to be compared fairly to the beast. But not enough good games to keep from wanting to compare them.

Ya Ya..and I\'ll admit to not knowing the answer, but I know that parking him on the bench isnt it.
