Default I'm going to get flamed for this but....

So I think the Raptors need a new outlook to their defence. I know I'm going to get a lot of people hating this idea but I think it will only make the Raptors better. We all know they can score, but please dear Lord, can we actually work on the D?

Suggestions:

Starting Line Up:

PG Jarett Jack
SG Antoine Wright
SF Hedo Turkoglu
PF Chris Bosh
C Andrea Bargnani

Rotation (Bench):

PG Jose Calderon
SG Demar DeRozen
SF Marco Belinelli
PF Amir Johnson
C Reggie Evans/Rasho Nesterovic

Jose needs to really start playing some D. His offence is coming around and he's playing a lot more aggressive, but defence wins championships. You can't expect to just outscore your opponent every single game and win championships.

Just a thought....

lol, one would argues the Jose's defence has been better then Jacks since the beginning of the season...It's all about team defence, something we have been improving on.

Welcome aboard gnarl.

Some interesting suggestions, but I just don't see Jose being relegated to the bench.

I also think it's still a work in progress. I would wait until the middle/end of December before making any real drastic lineup changes.

JT was on the TheFan this morning and he said he doesn't plan to bench Dero anytime soon. He likes his progress and he'll continue to start so hack that.

Personally I don't think he deserves to start but in the NBA if your a lottery pick you get the benefit of the doubt for a while.

I don't like either Jack or Jose for various reasons but Jose is by far the better PG. Yes he does have a defensive ineptness to him but u just can't do it.

As for Reggie Evans: Its been how long for his foot to heal? Was that a sprained ankle Reggie?

That is all

Reggie Evans has a "mid-foot" sprain that can take anywhere for 2 weeks to 2 months to heal - And its not healing!

There is no way Jack replaces Calderon in the starting line-up. Jack doesn't have Jose's skills.

But the Jack - Belinelli combination is looking awesome. Beli provides the creativity and flash missing from Jack's game - they are a nightmare second unit to defend against.

I like your idea. However, instead of starting line-up, how about the line-up to close out games. Also, I would replace Bargs with Amir. This is the line-up to make stops and close out games.

PG: Jack, SG: Wright, SF: HEDO, PF: BOSH, C: AMIR JOHNSON.

Well then at least start Wright over DeRozen if Calderon isn't going to come off the bench.

Well the problem with that is, Belinelli needs to get his 20-25 minutes and Jack plays some 2. Where does that leave Derozan, playing behind Turkoglu? He isn't good enough to play the 3, at least not yet.

it's wonderful that we are even able to have this debate this season! i remember other years where we were hoping a D-league guy would come off the bench and play! perspective is a good thing! we have 10 solid players and we showed that last night. AB will not be sitting behind Amir in any lifetime! Jose won't be a bench player and DDR will need to play better defense if he expects to go against the wealth of talent the NBA offers in the 2 spot night after night. he is growing, but he is not quite there. should he start? yes, he is energy at both ends and that is a good place to have him, with out best 4 guys night after night, one night, it will click in and we will have a very tough 10 man rotation! i can't wait, and it is coming...

Jose was pog last night, not bosh! sigh!

Theres no way Calderon gets demoted, no way.
and Jack's Defense is overrated IMO.
if we were going to do anything with the starting lineup, i'd have Derozan get pushed to the bench.... insert Wright or Beli.

this is basketball, not soccer so i don't think it will change so many things..everyone gets their minutes.IMO it is all about rotation..

instead of playing 8-9 minutes with starters and playing another 6-7 minutes with all bench players, we should combine them like yesterday to play with a balanced and effective team for 48 minutes..

there is nothing wrong with starting those guys but followings are important i think;

-one of jose or hedo should always be on the court..
-bargs should play with amir or rasho for some minutes, same for bosh..
-hedo and belli should play seperately..
-when wright is in,belli should also be..

jack is just as bad as Calderon at defending quick point guards, he's only better against the strong ones, but these days there are more and more quick ones.

if you really want to go radical, start banks at PG, he is an elite defender when comitted.

DeRozen needs to learn how to do the little things...he was a scorer in college, but this is the NBA. You see from tonight's game that a starting line that the Raptors currently have, have no chance of winning anything. Triano needs to take a new approach to how the Raptors play, the game against the Bobcats was just humiliating.

Changing who starts and who comes off the bench won't help...it's just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. This team needs some players who can play defense. Unfortunately, BC only cares about offensive players. That's why none of his teams have ever gone to the Finals.
