If Triano goes, who do we replace him with?

I don't see it happening, but if Triano's option is not exercised, who fits the bill?

Mike Malone - Defensive wiz, familiar with Toronto
Bryan Shaw - Snubbed by Buss, not in the running anymore for GSW
Rick Adelman - Would be hard to convince him to coach again, especially a young team, wants to move upstairs and be a GM
Lawrence Frank - might get the GSW gig
Dwayne Casey - might get the GSW gig

Anyone else?

i like the malone option. not su sure about shaw. however i think we need triano for one more year. scratch that, not need but will have. there's no point getting another coach for a year to get us 2-5 extra wins next season. we all know he's able to develop the young. let him have the reigns for one more year and then bring in a guy with experience.

I like Malone or Frank. I think we bring them in now with a real commitment, at least a 3-4 year deal. Too establish a new defensive system early. Although I don't believe we are in the playoff hunt for the next few years, I don't think we should give up on developing a better team defense, we don't want to wait until we are playoff capable to bring in a new system.

Can you imagine this on the sidelines?

Bargs, there goes your man!

I'd be quite pleased with Frank, Malone, or Shaw.

Exactly. The main purpose of hiring a new coach is to bring a new philosophy to the club, have the players adjust to a new system, and to develop stronger fundamentals. Triano is a nice guy, but he's not a great NBA head coach. The players continue to make the same mistakes each and every game, and many of these mistakes are correctable.

I can see Phil showing up with either the NYKs or end his career with the Bulls (if the Bulls have another early exit).

No surprise about Shaw being snubbed by the Lakers, not easy to coach players youve actually played with - esp when one is a HoF

I think Shaw would be great for the Raps though. Young enough to relate to the core, a winner with the Lakers to gain respect from the vets/young core, and understands the triangle O and how to play defense.

Dutches 05-29-2011 04:55 PM

Shaw would be very interesting, and he may at least consider coming here as he'd have pretty much carte blache to do whatever he wants.

Frank, to me, is meh.

Lawrence Frank.

That guy is legit. Both X's and O's and he's respected by players.

I'd look at Alex English.

I remember when he was in the running for the Indiana position, the brass there loved him and his view on the game both offensively and defensively but he lost out to Jim O'Brien instead.

i'd still like to give triano another year.

This.
The mistakes are definitely correctable and it's way easier to hire a new guy (with a new system) than to ask Triano to change his existing "system". I`m saying it`s easier because of the players that we have. The young core (and potentially some new faces) can learn and absorb a new system together rather than having some guys adjust to changes while the new acquisitions are learning from scratch.

Plus there simply are better coaches available with respect to experience, wins, playoff appearances. I hope Bryan Colangelo's drafting philosophy--taking the best talent available--is also applied to picking a coach.
