No surprise about Shaw being snubbed by the Lakers, not easy to coach players youve actually played with - esp when one is a HoF

I think Shaw would be great for the Raps though. Young enough to relate to the core, a winner with the Lakers to gain respect from the vets/young core, and understands the triangle O and how to play defense.
I'm pretty sure Phil is all done. The way he talks about it, he says he's 100% on retiring. I'm also pretty sure the effort the Lakers gave really pissed him off and he realized how much of a pain coaching can be at his age and that he needs to spend time with his family...

I would like to give Mark Jackson a chance. I think that his knowledge of the game and his ability to break down tape and articulate it to the masses will ring through to a young team. He gets high praise but hasn't been giving a chance. That being said, most of our coaches we have had, have had their first NBA head coaching job with the Craptors (Minus Malone & Wilkens) So I would go Frank or even PJ Carlisimo. PJ won't have to worry about a Raptor putting their hands on him. Craptors are sweet minus JJ. He might Bruce Lee PJ if he starts talking reckless at practice.

Frank is just a loud mouth IMO
Our you players would tune him out IMO

But Mark Jackson would be a pretty good choice too!

I'm not very keen on Frank, although he would bring a great defensive philosophy with him. I think he would be a great assistant coach, but he already occupies the same position with Boston.

Shaw would be a very interesting hire. He's young and ws mentored by an all-time great NBA head coach. I do wonder, however, whether he can instill a strong defensive foundation in Toronto.

One guy that I would like to see the Raptors hire as an assistant head coach is Charles Oakley. I think he would be a great influence on the team's young core.

Oakley is taken as an assistant, unless there's some change in Charlotte that I missed. I'd take him as a head coach though. It's probably too soon for him to make the move though.

I'd be cool with Malone. Shaw as well. McHale might have been nice.

Really though, I just hope they straighten out the player personnel and get the team headed definitively forward. I certainly don't see a new coach being any kind of answer at this point.

Messina or Blatt should be added to the list.

Don't know if they are even a legit option with contract situations overseas and all, but they are hell a good coaches.

Some assistant head coaches make lateral moves to other organizations either for familial, personal, or professional reasons (e.g., Jim Todd moving from the Raptors to the Bucks). I think Oakley would consider returning to Toronto given his time with the organization and he's publicly stated on many occasions how much he enjoys Toronto.

I don't know if Oakley is HC material. Have you heard him speak lately? Dude's taken a few too many shots to the head i suspect. Plus, we don't need yet another rookie HC. May as well make Boogie the head coach.

Try reading the entire post because I suggested that the Raptors inquire about him becoming an assistant head coach.

From the coach:

Quote:
5. MIKE MALONE: Most of you don't know who he is but let me tell you something - he'll be an NBA head coach in the next few years. I've been talking about Tom Thibodeau for the past few years and he finally got his break with the Bulls. Son of former Raptors head coach and current Orlando Magic assistant Brendan Malone, he's paid his dues as an assistant in the NCAA at Manhattan, Providence and Virginia, and in the NBA with New York, Cleveland and New Orleans. He's worked as an assistant for Leo Rautins for a few summers with the Canadian national team. I've known him for a long time and more importantly he's got 'It' - he's going to be a good one. Remember the name. He's interviewed for the head coaching job in Golden State and they would be smart to take a chance on him. Even if it doesn't happen this time it should and will eventually. I've been in the business and seen all kinds - he's a keeper.
Quote:
7. JAY TRIANO: Bryan Colangelo gets a two-year contract extension and it's been quiet on Triano as things are evaluated. Have always felt that they've got a good relationship and the silence of late has been interesting. I'm sure a decision will come sooner rather than later.

Theres only 2 choices:

1. Adelman- Because hes a fucking awesome coach.
2. Shaw- Hes been an assistant under a great coach and was essentially Jacksons right hand man. I think he's going to be a great head coach once given the opportunity.

The team made the right move in letting Triano go (more accurately, bumping him upstairs).

The suggestion of Mike Malone is growing on me. He's the type of candidate that Colangelo would target - not a household name but well known in basketball circles.

Shaw would be an excellent candidate as well. I don't see Adelman coming to Toronto, as I think he will want a chance to coach a team close to contending and/or take on a GM position.
