Iavaroni leaves the Raps for the Clippers

Quote:
In Las Vegas for Summer League, Marc Iavaroni confirmed that he has accepted an assistant coaching position with the Los Angeles Clippers, joining newly appointed head coach, Vinny Del Negro.

The move to LA comes after Iavaroni spent the past season on the Toronto Raptors bench, serving as an assistant to Raptors head coach, Jay Triano. Iavaroni first gained national recognition while working under Mike D’Antoni in Phoenix with their high-octane, “seven seconds or less” offense. It will be interesting to see whether Iavaroni’s history of working with uptempo offenses will mesh with Del Negro’s more traditional offensive principles in Los Angeles.

Good. He saw the writing on the wall that Carlesimo is our head coach in waiting if Triano absolutely face plants this upcoming season. I will miss his incredible defensive game plans, and skills implemented in practices.

He was also the Big Man coach so I'm doubly glad he is gone.

He didnt say or do much all season. I think he was waiting for Jay to get wacked, and when it didn't happen, he was shocked/disappointed. His thoughts: If not now then when?

I suspect PJ's words carried alot of weight in meetings and Mark saw a change in the internal coaching structure; one that didn't include him.

It's still Triano's job to implement a system.

I don't really see where the excitement about his departure is coming from.

Yeah, he was a defensive coach on a team with defensive woes, but is one year enough to see anything tangible defensively?

All eye's are on you Jay. No more excuses. I wonder if the plan here is to now promote Alvin Williams to a higher ranked Assistant Coach.

You guys are hilarious talking like Ivaroni doesn't know basketball or how to coach defense. Look at the roster...not exactly filled with defensive stalwarts. I'd be willing to bet he just didn't want to work for Triano again. I think this move is more about Triano's credibility than it is Ivaroni. I'm curious to see how long Carlisemo remains an assistant on our staff.

Thank you at least someone said it. Also, losing anything tangible to the LA Clippers isn't something to be cheering about.

Thats almost like a criminal choosing Jail over being free.

I'll take a wild guess that Iavaroni is responsible for this change:
now after opponent makes basket by humiliatingly shredding our defense, Raps try to look as if nothing happened (not sulking and watching at eachother as before) and inbound the ball as fast as possible (to have a chance at transition basket I presume)
