Default I want the Heat

We're not about to win the 2014 championship. Whether it's the 8th playoff seed or whatever series of events lead to it, I'd like the ugly brawler Raps to meet the Heat.

It would be a good experience, an exciting series and what I've wanted to see for a long time if we are not going to be contenders.

This team may not be as talented, but they are athletic.
Heat in 5 (one hot shooting game), but 5 games they will remember for the whole playoffs.

It's not because I play hockey that I want to see bloody noses and intimidation. Management seems to be backing it and building that type of culture, so it's going to happen.

Casey is now gong to have a "4th line" of intimidators to throw out there.

Potential goon squad:

Robinson
Ross (well, he can defend)
Acy
Hansbrough
Gray

Aw-Nawwwwwww! We have to play the Raptors.

Thank God. I thought this was going to be another stupid tanking thread. I don't think Robinson is coming but Lowry is pretty physical in his own right. Atleast before he came here.

Exactly what I've been thinking, I know the Heat are going to beat us, but I wanna give them a hell of a lot of headaches, flagrants, ejections, and worries along the way. Making every game tough will help the Raptors make a name for themselves and attract other players to come, while also exciting the playoff-hungry fans. For this reason alone, I'm fine with 8th seed, though facing Indiana or Brooklyn or Chicago could have the same effect.

Success breeds success.

You don't go from a thrown together team, to a championship team in one season. There are tons of examples of this; even the Heat didn't win it all their first year that they were thrown together. You're seeing the same thing from the Jays right now.

OKC were an up and coming team and they got stuck playing the Lakers in the first round. Everyone thought SWEEP, but the Thunder gave them a good series and that experience made them better in the long-term. The same with the Bulls who were back on their way up when they had to face Boston's new "big 3". On paper, it looked like they had no chance, but they took them to a seventh game and before Rose's injury, looked like they were competing for the conference, if not towards the finals.

I understand the tanking thing, I really do, but I want to see this team start to build something. I want to see a winning culture and I want to see wins - not losses, regardless of whether or not it costs us a CHANCE at a high draft pick.

...AHHAHAHAH

Brawler squad? You expect a fight?

If you're happy with a sweep and losing out on a top draft pick then sure, go for it.

I think he means a lineup that's really going to get physical and bruise up on the Heat like Chicago did when they broke up their win streak, at times during the playoffs and Indiana in the playoffs. Not that I think it's going to happen.

The Black Mamba is still shaken up by Gray's intimidation.

I don't know about "4th line", but Tyler+Jonas=two guys who play physical, fearless and won't be intimidated. That's nice to have.

However, you shouldn't expect an instant "new culture". It takes time. Look at the Nets, they had Gerald Wallace and Reggie Evans, and still they were soft. These tough guys leave their imprint, via practice, locker room, games. But it doesn't happen overnight. It takes years.

Yup. If we're not winning and obviously not tanking, I want the Heat. and the Heat don't want bruisers. they want a total finesse team to beat up on. Pave the way to the championship with bruises.

I'd rather not see the Raps get dismantled 4-0 or 4-1.

Expect a fight? That's what they already do. And now to be on a less successful team given a mandate to get tougher? Yes, that's exactly what guys like Robinson (if he lands here), Hansbrough and Acy would end up doing when they are getting punked on the scoreboard. for sure, D-Wade has to look out for Hansbrough.

Miami are the the 2 time champs trying to 3-peat and all eyes will be on them. A scrappy series would change our image, even losing. And I agree with DSWC. Facing the Heat will help them in the long run. If they are going to become like Indy, or the old tough Pistons, they are going to need the shock of that top level intensity.

If we're not going to tank you're damn right I wanna see the heat or Knicks/pacers and see our team put up a damn good fight. I don't care if we get swept I just want then to have to work there asses off to beat us.

So essentially, if the Heat are winning the game by a large margin (which they will), our second unit scrubs will go beat up players on the court?
nein, don't be silly. Ain't nobody wanna see that, I want a championship.

+1

Just shows how the state of sports in this city has affected the fans' expectations. Some here would enjoy being swept so long as we give a few hard fouls on our way there. This isn't hockey, the goal is not to rough the other team up.

+1.... besides, they'd just end up running up the score and embarrassing us further.

Hoo-boy. I'll jump to conclusions too. Even though we are not tanking and this year should be to help to change the soft culture(as MU has pretty much said), the only way to get better will be to somehow face Milwaukee in the first round and lose in 7 games. The following year, we will elevate to champions because we did not have to face the Heat.
Facing the Heat early in the build and seeing what intense championship ball is about will destroy the franchise, humiliate us to no end and fighting back instead of just taking it will do us no good.
