Yeah, it's better that our young players continue to not get playoff experience.

One of which expires this season and the other has a massive PO for the season afterwards. Not to mention the massive amount of capspace that the raps have to upgrade the bench at some point in time. Let's be like many Leafs fans - wooo! 8th place! Stanley Cup win! This is our year!

How did it work for Philadelphia when they got demolished by Miami?

So? It's always funny how we have to model ourselves after other teams or their results means ours can't be different. They made the playoffs then traded half their team. That's them not us, just like tanking won't turn us into OKC or Indy.

Do you think this team can beat the 1st place seed?

Also, the reason why people are not so in love with the squad is because of a) cap situation and b) that the current "core" 's ceiling isn't able to legitimately compete for a Championship.

The following year, we will elevate to champions because we did not have to face the Heat.
Facing the Heat early in the build and seeing what intense championship ball is about will destroy the franchise, humiliate us to no end and fighting back instead of just taking it will do us no good.
no, getting a shitty 8th seed and getting swept with no hope for improvement aside from organic growth will humiliate us to no end and fighting back instead of just taking it will do us no good.

you can set a tough, defensive culture for the team, but if your team just is incapable of winning games and you have a high pick to look forward to in a stacked draft along with JV and whatever assets we want to keep then it'll give us a better chance for improvement.

Do you honestly think we're going to go from not making the playoffs for 5-6yrs and right away contend for a championship and not suffer early defeats in the playoffs first? Or is it more realistic to start making the playoffs, maybe win a round and then make moves to upgrade talent? IMO some of this core could help compete....as currently constructed, no. That said, internal growth, some winning and playoff appearances ups players value which then allows us to make moves to better ourselves. We don't need to tank to eventually start competing.

We will endure early exits before winning championships, but with a young core on rookie/better contracts with much more room for improvement and growth. I never said we would go from 30th to 1st in a span of one year because of a draft pick. However, getting that high pick will allow us room to grow.

Internal growth is a joke, BC tried to sell you that kool aid and you guys bought it. Gay, Lowry, and possibly DeRozan are already at their peaks. We have no cap for roster improvements on our poor ass bench without gutting this so-so starting lineup.

No you're right. However they drafted very well and then didn't overpay or make stupid moves in FA which would hinder the squad. They did their utmost to preserve cap space.

Arrgh I never said that I just think that the current core as is isn't capable of making a serious run and with the squad's financial situation the squad is hindered in FA and hindered in trades when taking on bigger contracts. KL extension, RG extension at some point.

something Masai can do. you don't need a top 5 pick to get a good player. if you can scout, better talent can be found at #15

Look at the bigger picture, they built through the draft. I would also point out that they were extremely good with their picks, and that for all those years they for 10th-8th they were a treadmill team wandering aimlessly. They flipped guys like Harrington and Jackson for guys like Murphy and Dunleavy while keeping O'neal, making lateral moves like BC and that crap got them nowhere. They finally decided to get rid of all these guys and started to rebuild.

Yeah but the whole cap situation has to be addressed because Indy thought up their financial situation perfectly which MU has a lot of work to clean up given who he replaced...
