Other than his athleticism, which I think is good but not elite, I don't see any real PG skills. I don't see why people think he should be starting PG. It looks like his role should be more of a spark plug off the bench.

people think he should be starting on THIS team, over calderon. also in a tank season might as well see what he has. heck, we've given Bargnani 7 years to show us something.....giving one season to bayless in a meaningless season isn't too much to ask is it?

While I agree that Jerryd Bayless isn't that great of a point guard, I will say this: Jose is not significantly better. The attractive part about giving Bayless more playing time is seeing him develop and grow with the rest of the team while making mistakes. Bayless is only 23, whereas Jose is already 30.

Bench Jose, let Jerryd start and play the majority of the minutes. It's going to be a down year anyway, might as well see what Jerryd can do and how he can develop and grow with the team.

who is more considered to have a possible future role with this team? I think Jose's time here is coming to an end soon enough and bayless needs to play to further see what he can handle. i don't see him as a starter but i really don't think jose is much better or is a starter either on a good team. Ultimately, i don't see either as our starting PG when we start to compete for possible playoff success.

sink or swim with bayless playing 30 minutes, next summer drop jose and maybe both depending on what you have with bayless. this should be a season of seeing what you have with our youngsters and whether or not they can play defense under casey.

Say what you will about Jose, but he understands how to run a team better than Bayless does.... It's important for a young team.

Bahhh, he's overrated in that department imo. He hasn't led this team anywhere.

but how does Bayless do better?

and he does a pretty good job leading the rest of the team. He's not chucking the ball and distributes at a very efficient rate.

who cares? this isn't a year for doing better is it? it's a year to see what you have with the younger players to see if they have a future here. not playing a player who's not going to be here in the long term (i hope).

I would rephrase it, he makes some players better by creating scoring opportunities for them.

But Jose can still play well off the bench while Jerryd needs to be starting to be productive. Stats don't lie

Lol... he's not Derek Rose.

What he IS is a smart PG who knows how deliver the ball to people and put them in good position to score. He also takes care of the ball very, very well and limits TOs.

All very important things for a PG.

By all means, if Bayless learns how to run the team effectively and outplays Jose then you give him the lion's share of the minutes but it's silly to think that you're going bench the best floor general on the team when there isn't a better option available.

That's great. Proves that you know absolutely nothing about the game of basketball.

well if you want other players to get shots of as well and develop you start jose, because chucking does make a difference, less touches for the others

Really doesn't matter .. there will be plenty of minutes for both, and it's only a matter of time before Caldy's hammy screams ....

The real question is whether Bayless will learn to play in control and leads an effective offense ... playing strong defense won't hurt with Casey
