Default I can't believe how many of you want Casey gone...

He's an NBA champion.

Do you not think that he understands what it takes to win games just a little bit better than you do?

Rick Carlisle himself said that Dwane Casey was the architect of the defense for his championship Mavs. There is no question Dwane Casey is one of the better defensive coaches in the NBA.

Some of you question his offense. Do you not think that he learned a thing or two about what works offensively and what doesn't in this league when he was on the bench under Carlisle for the Dallas Mavs when they won the NBA championship?

This current roster is a team that is very questionable in a lot of aspects: we have no true shooters, we have a player who is often disinterested, we just recently acquired a new franchise center piece, and traded away our starting point guard of the past 5 or so seasons. Do you not expect some sort of a transition period?

I'm not saying Casey is the best coach in the world by any means, but what I am saying is that he is a good coach. He works hard, and he has instilled a defensive attitude and mentality in this team that was competely absent before he got here. How often do we get blown out under Casey?

Let's cut him some slack. This is a season that has gone wrong in certain aspects, but Dwane doesn't deserve the blame.

That Dallas squad had a hefty payroll with a phenomenal owner. Not to mention, that Dallas squad was ridiculously deep. Just sayin'.

Bet you weren't expecting them to beat the Heat though.

Bottom line is that the Mavs were underdogs in that series.

I actually was expecting them to beat the Heat. I knew that that Dallas' squad - for many of those players - it was their last shot at a championship - they were a group of vets (all around 30 or more) looking for that ring which had eluded them. JET, Marion, JKidd, Dirk, Peja, etc knew it was their last shot or they weren't likely to get a shot like that again. Once you're they're you take your shot because you never know when you'll get it again and Dallas with a team of vets weren't gonna let that chip get away from them. The Heat would obviously get a shot at the championship again.

Some amazing assistant coaches suck as head coaches because they can't do everything good enough. Casey is one of those guys.

I was hoping Casey would be able to evolve much like how Thibodeau has evolved quite well but he hasn't unfortunately

He suffocates our growth by keeping so many minutes away from JV and Ross. Yet were still achieving nothing this year... so... I don't get it.

I just hope that Casey is beginning to realize that this team has a frontcourt that needs to be more involved in the offense and that you can't just let your wings chuck without being held accountable. End the forced possessions and feed the bigs.

For the guy who was the defensive mastermind behind the Mavericks Chip against Miami. I wonder why the Raptors play style compared to Dallas is so different even on the defensive end. Dallas was often switching between man and zone to keep Miami on edge and it worked yet we probably see zone once a month. Our offense just stinks no pure shooter which is understandable but playing small ball in the last 5 minutes when it's a close game...Rebounds win games (how many times have we lost because of a tip in) and yet we have 2 and a half 7 footers on the bench watching the final minutes.

Well that's just the difference there. Some coaches have it while others don't. His offense is baffling to say the least and doesn't really play to the strengths of anyone.

Our zone suffers because of our slowfooted wings not being able to close out on shooters.

DAL had Marion, Chandler and Kidd on that squad.... 3 of the best defensive players of the past 20 years.

They also had Dirk to score on offense.

There's a difference between a team that wants to be there, and a team doesn't want to be there. Just playing for a paycheck. If you guys see unmotivated play, then that's a sign the coach is losing his squad. If you guys lose close games, but the Raptors played hard, then that's just an adjusment that needs to be made (assistant coaches, better players).

I got a good look at the Bobcats last night. They don't look too bad, they scored 60 in the paint on the Blazers. They just don't have enough shooters. Even though they have the worst record, they don't look unmotivated, they just stink. That's not enough to fire a coach in my opinion. You learn from your losses and try to do better next game.

Not to mention the team changed its system mid season.
Raptors played no defense early in the year, and tried to be a more up tempo team.
They threw that out the window when lowry got hurt and jose cant run an up tempo team, they went to slow it down, grinding pick and roll system.
They started to play defense again like last year in january and then two major pieces left in Calderon and davis.

The system changed again into a wing isolation focused team with rudy gay and derzan as the centerpiece. His ideas arnt bad, just poor executed and unrefined.

You can argue that the talent on the team isnt used in an optimal way, or criticize his minute distribution. But thats just his coaching style, and theres alot going on behind the scenes that fans dont know about. Part of his job is to keep players motivated, and sometimes that means making players earn their minutes.

It'll be different when they have a whole training camp and off season to redesign the system with our new pieces and stick with it for a whole season.

Its no secret casey likes veterans, so dont expect rookies to be spoonfed with minutes.

there is no question this team needs to grow together... constantly swapping out parts isn't likely to instill a solid system, but even just a simple in and out to the repertoire of out wings would do wonders.

getting blown out is a signal of not enough talent, not a bad coach. on the contrary, losing close games is a signal of a bad coach. and that's what casey's done for us. I don't want him on the bench next season if we can get someone better, which with the pieces we have and a decent off season I think we can get.

he's been pretty bad this year, and coaches that don't win get tuned out by players pretty quick. i woud be happy to see him go alongside the gm.
