.... what if Jose did in fact make the All-Star team? Sure Chuck and Leo are homers, but other NBA analysts have expressed the same sentiments by supporting that thought. So, once TJ comes back and is even 100% for next season too, do you bench an All-Star PG or stick with the original plan and play the guy you spend so much money on in Ford?

Seriously, what do you do? I know we've debated the Ford vs. Jose thing till we're all blue in the face, but this could be a serious dilemma IF it does infact happens and Jose goes to New Orleans in a couple weeks. If Jose keeps up his play as of late, him getting named to the Eastern All-Star squad isn't too far fetched.

Thoughts?

I know it's hypothetical, but first of all there's no way Jose makes the all-star game. It's just not going to happen. He's not spectacular enough of a player and Toronto's record doesn't warrant a selction.

Secondly when TJ comes back he'll undoubtedly be coming off the bench and I don't think that will change for the rest of the season.

Likely so, but it was only hypothetical as the title stated.

I was more concerned on how such an award as being named an All-Star would impact this team for following seasons. I realize that when Ford comes back that he'll back up Jose for likely the remainder of this season, just wondering that when next November rolls around assuming Ford is 100% and Jose is re-signed, what then?

Guess we'll just have to wait and see then.

I agree with ACIE, although Im sure some coaches wil vote for him. The Cavs announcers commented that he at least he deserves to be taking on consederation.

If TJ was playing right now, then he would be getting considered as well. Hypothetically, you could see Jose going this year, and TJ going next year. No biggie. If either one is coming off the bench, it is wrong to think of them as being benched. They have both expressed such sentiments themselves, and they both have a great mindset with the whole situation. It's all about winning, and they are both better when the other guy is there sharing minutes.

Calderon all-star this year... no.
If he does he'll want more pay then TJ gets and thats no good.
What do u guys think about this contract for Josee
08/09 = 8,000,000
09/10 = 8,000,000
10/11 = 8,500,000
11/12 = 8,500,500

a little less ?
or more ?

Probably more, especially if he makes All-Star team and TJ doesn't come back or is injured again... there will be a team to offer him more so Raps will have to match it...

I dunno...i just dont' see Jose as an allstar level... sure he's putting up some good assist numbers and good shooting percentages but he doesn't win games for his team... his team isn't really doing all that great... he's such a quiet producer. Amazing talent yes... all star...i'm not convinced. Really.. .with the shooters he has on this team he should be getting 8-10 assists per game... so that's not a huge stretch and anyone shooting 50% should be taking a few more shots and getting a solid 15-17 ppg imo.

To begin with, after reading the quote above 4-5 times, I am pretty sure that's not an "either-or" proposition as both parts of your sentence suggest starting Ford.

As was said earlier by many, I simply don't see Ford starting this season, even if he comes back.

It could still happen. All-Star games are only as good as the point guards that play in them, and a guy like Calderon will make everyone else on the floor look good.

Case in point, was it last year where Nash and Kidd were hurt and it was a selfish-fest?

last year was horrendous - worst all-star game ever. Maybe because the year before it was actually semi-decent, with the 4 pistons playing together and bringing some competivity ...

If Jose does make it he's going to have to let go of the reigns a bit and make some higher risk passes... the all star game is about showcasing the game... not playing under control
