Default How much is Bosh worth

I don't think anybody ever claimed that Bosh is not a great player (as Ugo seems to imply). The real question is if Bosh is a franchise player (defined by me as a player capable to take a team to a title and being its best player) or not. In this league, ONLY franchise players as defined above should ever be paid a maximum salary, as it has a very crippling effect on the team's budget.

So, Bosh will make 16,000,000 in 2009/2010, and will be in line for a signficant increase which would give him 30% of the cap space initial salary, and 10% increases every year. He would probably start at around 18 millions, and end up with ~30 million in his final year (assuming he resigns here, for maximum salary and maximum length). The average salary will be around 23 million.

Now, looking at the recent free agent signings around the league, I wonder how much do raptor fans think Bosh is realistically worth?

Here are a few samples of the salaries awarded the past two seasons:

under 13 million:

Andres Biedrins (10/yr)
Josh Smith (11/yr)
Okafor (12/yr)
Jamison (12/yr)
danny granger (12/yr)
Baron Davis (13/yr)

between 13 and 17 million
igoudala: 14/yr
bogut: 14/yr
brand: 16/yr
dwight howard (17/yr)

over 18 million
arenas: 18/yr
lewis 18/yr
kevin garnett 20/yr
chris paul: 22/yr

Yea I'm sort of worried about a max contract for Bosh in a recession where the cap could go down.

Bosh isn't worth 22 mil. No way. The only person that was worth that money was Jordan in his Chicago days because you knew a championship was ensuing.

I'd say he's around the 17-20 mil a season range (I don't believe what these athletes make - it's insane)

The uproar over what they make has always perplexed me. They're the best in the world and they're worth a lot to these teams (who make a lot of money), so they deserve their chunk.

he'll make the max or we'll lose him. no question.

in terms of the salaries you listed, many of those players have not hit their third contract yet so are uneligible for the max money deal. in this category are - howard, josh smith, okafor, granger, igoudala, bogut and perhaps baron (although not sure about this one).

you can bet your bottom dollar that howard and smith will make max money next time. probably the same for granger, possibly for igoudala and okafor as well.

the question is, does Bosh deserve that company?

a second question is, how often is it worth it to keep a max money player of any calibre vs a couple of quality second tier guys? is it better to have garnett/shaq/kobe, or to a lesser extent tmac/kidd/arenas, or two players at the $10-12 million range?

By 2010, he will be worth $20 million on the market. The Raptors will be able to offer that...the question is: is he worth keeping at $20 million, or would a sign-and-trade make sense (to make use of his Bird Rights)?

wow... $30M, now that's a significant chunk of money... i love playing this game... say you make $50K/year, it'll take you 600 years to make $30M... if you make $100K/year, it'll take 300 years, $150K/year, 200 years

OK, i agree with 'trane. He'll get the max contract. And, if you look at his impact on the team, he deserves it. Unless Bosh is surrounded by better players, we'll never know how good he can actually be. Look at Boston, when Allen scored 36 points against the raps, Pierce had an off night with "only" 11pts, 6 rbs, and 6ass. Garnett had 10pts, 11rbs, shooting 3of16. The next night, Pierce had 39pts, 9rbs, 4ass, Garnett had 20/12, and Allen had "only" 12pts, 5 rbs, 5 ass.

In the first game Pierce and Garnett had off nights, and in the second game Allen had an off night. I doubt anyone in Boston complained about them. Shit, if those guys played here, they'd get ripped into so hard. "F*ckn' Pierce, he's so inconsistent." "Garnett sucks. He only shot 3of16. He was the worst Celtic on the floor and nearly cost us the game!"

I don't think anyone in this league is worth a max contract except for two guys named Lebron and Kobe.

I'd probably value Chris somewhere in the third tier, before the max contract.

I heard that Dirk was talking about taking less money, so the Mavs could go out in 2010 and have enough money to pick up a quality free agent. This to me shows how much he wants a championship, it means more to him than just money. If CB4 really wants to have a real shot at a championship he should do the same and not force the max, allowing the raps to surround him with good solid talent. It would be great if the raps could resign Bosh for around $17 million per year but its hard to see that happening in the greedy culture we live in.

I agree. If Bosh really wants a championship and likes this town a lot, he'll scarifice money for that. Hopefully he does so we can throw money at Wade and/or JJ

Maybe he takes less to make the team stronger, but not much less. First he's going to have to see a pretty strong team to begin with.

He is making like 14 mil this season so maybe instead of taking a 20 mil contract he might accept on a 18/year. What do you guys think???

i think he's going to take his money. as much of it as he can get. that's what i'd do, and i'm about as left-leaning a capitalist as there is. nobody in their right mind and in their 20's is going to walk away from $2 million.

If Bosh is willing to take less money, he would probably go to Orlando. He and Dwight talked about it a number of times during the Olympics.

As i imply? Im the one that made a thread defending him.... he will want max $, he isnt quite worth it, but why haggle over a couple mil with him, give him the 22 and he will stay.

actually my question was how much you think he's worth, there's no question he's getting max, either here or elsewhere. I think the salary cap rules are flawed by allowing yearly 10% increases, the league or the CBA is dellusional if they think they can increase the league's revenues by 10% every year (to make up for the salary increases).

its the raises that will kill us. if he didn't get the raises, he'd still be making too much money but at least the team has a chance to surround him with enough talent to win.

weird how large of a salary gain chris paul has over howard. guess that's what happens with the raising every year percentage of the cap deals. is Bosh worth more than them? let alone more than kobe or bron? no. as much? well, noone would trade them straight up for bosh, so i guess its not right to say he's worth as much as them.
