How many years away are we?

Saw Bob McCowan on his radio show discussing the Raps and this very question with his "round table" panel. Was curious to hear what people here might think.

To be clear, when I say "how many years away?" I mean....

How many years away is this team from becoming a legit title contender?

Exactly.

There are all kinds of unknowable factors, like draft position over the next few years.

bjjs 01-27-2012 08:51 PM

Chicago, Miami. Not going to happen.

LightsOut 01-27-2012 09:00 PM

smh at the 4 homers, to me its either 4-6 years or its not gonna happen

moremilk 01-27-2012 09:02 PM

4-6 or 10+
In 4 years this team will be good, that much is certain
With all the young guys and future draft picks, we'd have to really screw up not to be a 45+ wins team. If we get enough talent, we'll be contenders, oterwise we'll be stuck in the middle for a few years until rebuild time comes again.

I wouldn't worry too much about miami and chicago. Wade will be done in 4 years and bosh will be past his prime. Same for boozer and deng. Most likely the best team in the east will be one other than those two.

I lol'd at last option but sadly chose it

ClingRap 01-28-2012 01:13 AM

We have no young nucleus. Look at Minnesota. You can see the talent there, and begin to think what might be. Can't do that here. I think it'll depend on how the ping pong balls go and if Bargs calf doesn't turn into his achilles heel. No pun intended. I'm still leaning towards never.

box92 01-28-2012 02:08 AM

I think 3-4 years

RaptorsFan4Life 01-28-2012 02:20 AM

2015 bro, 2015.

Metallikid 01-28-2012 09:13 AM

I'd be happy to see the conference finals. :cookie:

Windex 01-28-2012 09:38 AM

whenever we make the playoffs + 3 years is when we can be contenders
so 2014+3 = 2017 at the earliest

Bankiz 01-28-2012 10:39 AM

to be realistic :
JV need at least 2-3 years to product.
DD need two more years to be regular.
JJ as our nackup SF can produce enough already.
Barbosa as our backup sg will be gone in 3 years.
Amir would still be a nice backup center/PF if he learn how to foul less.

i don't think jose would be here in three years, neither bayless, so that put a long way to grab some asset who can really play together like denver does or OKC.

to be a playoffs team which will not be blow in the first round, we will need :
a real backup center. a real pg dynamic passer and a real SF.
that puts us in need right now. so it depends on trade, draft, etc... that BC can put together before he is gone.

if we can get a SF in the draft, and we sign a big center srater/backup, next season we can be fine.but we will need a pg to lead this team. else we like Houston. a lot of asset, a lot of good player, but not able to win in playoffs.
and stay with casey has our coach. for one time, if we can keep a coach who preach defense and brign player to do it, keep him.

jeffb 01-28-2012 11:23 AM

That round table full of puckheads must have laughed this question off. Lol

I'll say 3-4yrs. A lot depends on the next 2 offseason when we have capspace and how good Valanciunas turns out to be and how good our next pick is. If Valanciunas in say his second season is a 15/10 player and our 2012 draft pick is an impact player then things can progress pretty quickly. But it's all a shot in the dark.
