Lightbulb How to Fix The Toronto Raptors (Doable)

So you come here eager to discover the solution to a team like the Toronto Raptors of 2009-2010? Well rest assured that there is a solution for this dillema and it is broken down in this post into three simple ingredients.

1) Adjust the Starting Line Up.

You cannot expect a rookie to start in your lineup, and still expect to win games and compete at the highest level. Simply put, starting DeMar DeRozan is not going to cut it. It has long term benefits as the rookie gains valuable game experience that he can one day use, but as for immediate gains? There are no major ones. In fact, it is known that rookies are prone to making mistakes because they are still learning and DEVELOPING a feel to the NBA game. When you have someone that is still underage in most States in terms of the drinking age, you cannot seriously expect to start him and win games at the same time.

2) Start to play defence.

Everyone loves watching a high octane offense at work, but you won't see that high octane offense in the Conference Finals. To completely be honest, the defense starts at the point guard position, and if you have a weak point guard defensively who will allow his man to blow past him to the hoop consistently, you better have a solid defensive big man to back him up. The Raptors have neither. Andrea Bargnani cannot be counted upon to be that defensive anchor that he desperately needs to be in order for this team to survive with Jose at the helm. So the solution? Get rid of one of them, if not from the team, then at least from the starting five.

3) Spice it up.

It seems like everyone on the Toronto Raptors is a nice person to talk to, or a smart player on the basketball court. The fact of the matter is that the team needs someone who will take a lead in the locker room and call upon players to step their game up. So far Bosh has not done this. Taking nothing away from Chris as he is having a monster season, the Raptors need some leadership on this team, badly. If the players are not to blame for this it certainly can be put on the administration. While Sam Mitchell was not a great coach in terms of Xs and Os, he could be counted upon to put players in their place and properly motivate the team, something we sorely lack since the Smitch firing.

I think it's a nice post also. But isn't it ironic that Smitch was criticized for not playing Barney consistent minutes? (especially considering that benching is a coach's best tool and Smitch wasn't going to put up with him not doing his job as a centre) Now here we are again. Of Calderon and Barney, I'm not sure Jack would be an upgrade as a starter. I don't even know how he got all that production in Indy.

So that leaves Barney. And that is why I thought Evans may have been the most important off season acquisition. When the Raps have been getting pushed around, punked, bitch-slapped and curb stomped, for sure, he could have adjusted some attitudes in their own locker rooms and on other teams. I honestly think some players in the league might be afraid of him...even other than his role as the NBA nutcracker. Outside of Bosh, there is no veteran who will go out and grab 20 rebounds. Reggie can. That's huge.

1. trade for kg
2. put bargs/jose on the bench
3. trade for an authentic center like dampier that knows his only roll is defense

Nice post brotha! I totally agree,.. get a real (defensive) center and ship out Calderon for defensive PG and let Bargs get used to coming off the bench or grow some frickin nuts. I don't understand why BC can't plan a god damn thing... I don't think reggie is gonna solve all of our woes, we NEED that center, you don't see nobody coming in and fucking around with perks or damps. Maybe BC is listening to the announcers too much... them and all their talk about traditional centers bring a dying breed. Hell no, winners always have that center and always will. THATS IT, LETS REACH OUT TO OAK! lol
