Ok, i know we haven't played a game yet and all we can do is predict at this point. But talent wise, how far are we from being a top 3 team in the East and a legit contender. Boston in a few years will be on the downslide and who knows where Cleveland will be? What is now needed for the Toronto Raptors to be an elite team?

I'd say a true starting SG with experience, but who knows if Derozan can eventually be that player. Does it all depend on the development of our young players, such as Derozan, Bargnani, Belinelli, Jack. Or does it all hinge on if Bosh stays or goes.

With Bargs going into his 4th season and seemingly coming into his own, with us getting a legit backup PG, and by us aquiring a true SF who can handle the ball, score and create, and with Bosh adding weight and looking to make the next step, what's next?

BC by putting this team together has aquired assets, ones that can be moved to improve the team down the road. And by making the moves he's made he's saying we want to keep Chris Bosh and contend in the near future. But what else does he need to aquire to achieve that?

We are a good team now but I really think we need an above average defender in our starting line-up. That'll help us a lot

I think that if Derozan shows this season that he can be a good player in this league in the future (since i think he'll be inconsistent this season), but if he shows flashes, and improves as the season goes on especially on the defensive end, then the next few seasons could be quite interesting. But if he can develop nicely with consistent minutes and Bargs continues where he left off last season, i don't think we're that far off. Maybe another vet off the bench (SF?) and depending how our SG's play, maybe a starting defensive SG.

Apparently Garnett is running with a slight limp, if he is unable to completely recover i'd say we can take third in the East. That team is aging quickly and without a prime Garnett, they will be very hard pressed to hold a top 3 position.

I was watching RapsTv and the had real training camp and showing the Celtics, and yes he's limping. They were interviewing Doc and he said he's not 100% with his knee/conditioning and that he's got a shin problem. At his age, it's gonna be harder for him to recover. But either way we aren't getting third this season.

This is a brand-new roster and, promising as it may be, we won't have a good feel for what they are really capable of until at least Christmas. Co-incidentally, their first two months are pretty brutal, so if they come out of it slightly above 0.500, I'd say we've got a pretty good team that will go as far as their consistent effort is going to take 'em.

If, on the other hand, they pretty much tank to start the season, this year might not be very salvageable, mainly because of the confidence issues...

If they win more than 50 they could very well end up third.

They are either going to make a jump by the end of the year, or who knows where they go. If they make that jump earlier in the year, then third isn't crazy to think about.

They showed KG yesterday in real training camp and he was fine.

In terms of getting to the top, Bargnani has to become at least a 7.5+ RPG guy while still improving his offensive game, and Derozan has to develop into the player we all think he can become.

And these 2 things have to happen before Turkoglu loses his quickness and becomes a pure roleplayer. If it does happen before Hedo gets old then we'll have a beautiful starting 5 we'd just need to fill out our bench bigs because I like what we have in terms of backup guards.

On paper, it looks the like Raptors are close...
arguable, you can say that the raps are a TOP 3 TEAM, if lebron wasn't in the picture, cleveland would probably plummet to the outside looking in...

The raps need that killer instinct to put away teams. From years past, always play well until the 4th and the other team makes a run and the raps can't stop them.
I think with that, you can make the argument that they are top 3 in the east,

I think if this team can catch lightning in a bottle the way the 47 win team did, then who knows? This could be the year. It'll require alot of variables falling into place and players playing to their potential or beyond.
First things first, forget KG and what Boston is doing. The Raps have an all-star power forward of their own to get healthy.

Boston probably gets through again this season, but after that the Raptors should get their chance!

Boston's old and getting older - they can only dodge the injury bullets for so long! Allen isn't replaceable, but it's questionable if he'll be effective after this year. Wallace is 35 now and he was beyond hot tempered 3 seasons ago! KG ???

Never know what the Boston brass have up their sleeves but after this year they'll have some big decisions to make. With any luck, Boston's moving lower while Toronto's moving up!

to pull a 'hollinger', we're either very close, or very far
the keys are demar and bargnani, but the real question is what are the chances of becoming one.

I don't think hedu is a key piece, if we keep Bosh and demar and andrea fully develop, we have a good chance. If not, regardless of how close we are, we'll never get there with the current core.

We're about a LeBron James, Dwayne Wade or Dwight Howard away.

I hate to say it again but I told you all so!!!

Garnett can immediately be taken out of the top 5 power forward ranking as I had already as soon as I heard about the injury last year...Just like the DREAM on the Raptors he ain't never gonna be the same!
