Arrow Hoopsworld: Raps 13th out 15 Eastern Conference teams

Quote:
13. Toronto Raptors – Even though the Raptors won't be making the playoffs this season, Bryan Colangelo deserves some credit for the moves he has made this offseason. Ed Davis looked like a man among boys in Las Vegas, swapping Hedo Turkoglu for Leandro Barbosa will give the team cap flexibility in two years, and DeMar DeRozan and Sonny Weems appear ready for increased roles judging by their Summer League performances. Whenever a team loses a franchise player, it's difficult to rebound the following season. But rather than fielding the leftovers and becoming irrelevant, Toronto will have an identity and young players to build around. They'll obviously miss Bosh's production but we'll be hearing from the Raptors again in a few years once their young talent develops and that's because Colangelo was willing to make the necessary moves - and admit some of his mistakes - this summer.

We suck guys. Stop getting your hopes up. Something around 11-13 is where we will end up.

i dont disagree were not great. but we are not as bad as Indiana, Cleveland, Detroit (if they play like they did last year), New Jersey, and we can probably beat the Wizards as well as compete with the Knicks. We're a fast team with a real defensive coach in PJ.... will we rack up more than 30ish wins at most? no.... but were not going to get a lottery pick (not that i wouldnt want that though lol)

Wow that guy has some funny jokes. Knicks and Philly making it? Please....in all honesty heres my prediction for the east...feel free to debate or predict your own standings...
Miami
Orlando
Chicago
Boston
Atlanta
Milwaukee
Charlotte
New Jersey
Toronto
Indiana
New York
Philadelphia
Washington
Detroit
Cleveland

Really those first 5 teams are a lock to grab those spots. After that it's a dog race. I have New jersey making it over TO right now simply cause they have a better PG, better inside presence and a wicked coach. Avery is my dark horse for COY. Charlotte plays gritty D although if anything happens they could easily fall out of contention. Raptors could take that spot. The east is wide open this year.

Really? Brook Lopez and Devin Harris are no one? Derrick Favours? Anthony Morrow? Jordan Farmar? Courtney Lee? They got a decent enough team to compete at this stage. They have a defensive minded coach. Just watch.

I think Miami, Orlando, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston are locks.
Milwaukee should be unless Bogut gets a season ending injury .

Think Toronto Charlotte NYK and NJ will fight out for last 2 spots.
But I think Tornto is the best of the 4.

I'm fine with the ranking. I think we may come ahead of 13, but we'll be in that range. Either way, we're not coming at 13 with the salary problems the Knicks faced or what we faced years ago. And our young players will only get better. It's true, the league will hear from us again in a couple of years.

Last year Hoopsworld ranked Milwaukee #13 and they managed to get 6th seed, funny how we are #13 this year... anything could happen really.

ya we ain't that good, if we couldn't make the playoffs with Bosh last season i can't see us being higher than 9th. i'd say 11th would be great.

I'd say 9-15 is our range. If thins go bad, we could finish last, we will miss Turk more than some realize. Bosh and turkoglu were the only players able to create shots last season, and without both we'll struggle to score. Defensively, we're projecting to be about the same. Bosh+Turk is pretty much the same as Amir+kleiza, and we lost our best defender in wright. We will be better defensively, because we have to, since we won't be able to rely on offense to carry us.

If we lose Bargnani for 10-15 games, our offense will be horrendous, especially if we trade Jose this summer.

On the flip side, if weems and derozan make a huge step forward, and Davis makes a quick transition to the NBA, and Amir cuts down on his fouls, we could stick around that last playoff spot until late in the season.

All in all, 11-13 is the most probable range for us.

i agree...they underachieved last season imo...

harris/farmar
lee/morrow
outlaw/williams
favors/hump
lopez/petro

that looks like a playoff team to me on paper...but we are all to familiar with looking good "on paper"

Toronto will have an identity and young players to build around
I would love it if they zero in on that identity, and don't let it get lost in an attempt to eke out a few more wins. If they stick to building upon an emerging identity, then they could surprise like the Bucks, but that identity is going to have to be about solid defense to make that happen. And I sure as shit wouldn't complain about that. I just can't fathom Triano and Colangelo becoming Skiles and Hammond, but who knows?
