Hoopsworld: Jose Makes All-Breakout Team

One can only hope that Jose has a breakthrough year. Although, last year to a certain degree could of been considered his breakout. :confused2:

Calderon's playing only 24 minutes per game was a major factor in the Raptors losing the the Magic in five games in the first round of the playoffs.

With the departure of T.J. Ford and the addition of Jermaine O'Neal, Calderon will now run this team by himself and may very well find himself running the Eastern Conference All-Star team.

When Calderon got major minutes he had major production, averaging 14.9 points and 10.5 assists when he received 38 minutes a game in February. He penetrates, creates for himself and others, finishes in the lane and shoots the three.

He's a quicker, faster and better shooting Jason Kidd, and he's as good as anyone in the league coming off the ballscreen. Calderon's three-point shooting ability will be even more of a weapon with O'Neal providing some inside scoring.

He just needs minutes and the ball in his hands, and with Ford gone, it's now Calderon's show. Prepare for an entertaining one.

I hope Jose will be able to play at high level for extended minutes, 82 games + playoff! BC's master plan for next year rely heavily on Jose playing well and Andrea development!

Jose will get his 30-35 minutes per game, but I expect there to be a nice competition between Ukic and Solomon for the back-up role. Which will supply some relief for Jose. So, I don't think Jose will get burnt out like some might thought he could before they signed Roko and Solomon. Both players are more than sufficient to play the point. :)

35 minutes / game for 82 games + playoff is still a big change for Jose who used to play 20-25 minutes / game! He looked kind of tired at the end of last season. And I am not afraid about being burnt out but to play at high level especially in crunch time!

I think last season was his breakout season.By the time T.J returned it was obvious to everyone and even to T.J that Calderon was the PG of the future for the Raptors. He drew alot of attention throughout the League From December on, and there was alot of Buzz around the All-star game even on U.S braodcasts that stated he deserved to be there but because he was going up against Billups/Kid he probably wouldn't get in.

And come this off season alot of teams wanted to take a run at him (rumoured to be 8 teams) but the Raptors wouldn't allow that to happen. So to me that was his breakout season, and this coming season will be a season that can cement him as one of the best PG in the league.Showing that last season was no fluke and that he belongs at the All-star game.

He'll be playing 30-35 minutes with numbers around 14PPG/10APG this season and will be an All-star IMO.I hope he stays healthy and Ukic can thrive playing some minutes behind him.

he can handle the minites, He is a great athlete and he played some heavy minites last year when ford was down. Not only that but Roko looks amazing as well as soloman so we are looking rpetty good. Still amazed at how roko played against the raps last pre season.

Ukic was obviosuly auditioning... ;)

Calderon's ability to play at the highest level possible will depend entirely on how well Ukic (and, to a lesser extent, Solomon) perform as his backups.

I agree with everything said, except i really dont think Andrea stepping up is in BCs master plan, thats why we got JO, if Bargs does step up, it will just be a huge plus.

Well, the "huge plus" is what Raptors needs to get deep in playoff! Bosh, JO and Jose are good enough to get Raptors around top 4 .... Andrea if he pans out is the one who can push Toronto over the hill.

Durability is an unknown factor with Jose. He's never been asked to take a pounding 35 minutes a game for 82 games. I hope he can do it because he's just as important as anybody to this team's success.

Jose is a really good conditioned athlete and I think can handle the minutes
