Hoopshype: Softest players in the NBA

Quelle Surprise.....

Some of these are head scratchers, but.....

Quote:

ANDREA BARGNANI: Shoots like a small forward and rebounds like one. Except for an occasional long-armed blocked shot, this seven-footer also plays negligible defense. During his career, his aversion to mano-a-mano confrontations is evidenced by Bargnani’s averaging a mere 3.4 free throws per game.

He rebounds like a small forward? Most SFs can grab more than 4.5rpg He rebounds like a SG or PG if anything. He's being outrebounded by Derozan and Lowry this year...

Wow, I thought these American sports media based Basketball writers never knew who Bargnani was.....now he's being piled on! They must know deep down he would be really good on another team in a reduced role and egging on the idea of the Raps trading, especially now for minimum value. Don't fall for the bait Bryan............................................

LOL at Ricky Rubio selection. "Softest player in the NBA". The guy hounds people defensively. That's not soft at all. I suspect it was more or less "feminine family name, curly hair, flashy passes... softest in the NBA".

Also, any "soft" list has to have Al Jefferson and Blatche on it.

RAPMAN 12-10-2012 05:34 PM

That's one of Charles Barkley famous analogies. Charles asked Kenny Smith what do you call power forward that grabs 5 to 6 boards a game. Answer: a Small Forward. I was thinking about Bargnani.

carp 12-10-2012 05:38 PM

Bargnani is soft, that list has a few questionable names though and it's missing a few others too.

Mobat 12-10-2012 06:01 PM

How is Jose Calderon not on this list?

LKeet6 12-10-2012 06:03 PM

not saying hawes, hibbert and stoud are tough but i've never noticed them playing soft. seemed to be a bit of stereo-typing going on. hawes: "oh he likes to shoot, doesn't get enough boards = soft." Hibbert: "thought he was going be an all-star, hasn't made it = soft." Stoud: "injured a lot, doesn't want to get hurt, good at jumpers = soft." Not saying that stuff ain't true but just to (seemingly) equate that to soft is unfair. Hawes is pretty scrappy, hibbert gets blocks, stoud can still play in the post. like i said, not tough guys, but definitely not soft to my eyes.

the rubio pick as softest player in the nba is absolute bullshit. decent defender, plays with loads of heart. just such bullshit.

I understand the Amare selection, but its actually wrong because he just chooses not to play defence, its not that he doesnt like the contact or plays soft, he just doesnt try.

And Rubio being on that list makes the article complete BS. How the hell is he soft? Hes actually a good on ball and off ball defender. He fights through screens. That selection is such a joke, calling him the most soft player in the NBA and having nothing to back it up with.

How can you even know if he is soft? He never gets in the way of anything.:cookie:

There should be a second list for selfish and aloof palyers on defense.

Some guys want to shove the ball down your throat on offense and get their numbers, but are too selfish and immature to care about much else. In other words they are only soft at one end of the court.

Nites 12-10-2012 10:24 PM

How is Rubio soft? From what I've seen he's quite a gritty defensive player.

yeah, that was one of the head scratchers.

MikeToronto 12-10-2012 10:27 PM

I honestly wouldn't call Bargs soft. He plays man-to-man defense pretty well and doesn't shy away from contact at either end of the floor. He is not a rebounder, really, but is that a synonym for "soft"?

I can't really agree with that.

Beans 12-10-2012 10:35 PM

The guy who wrote that article is soft in the head.
