Default HoopsAddict.com: Jose Warrants All-Star Consideration

Hmmm .... I'm going to go out on a limb and say that eventhough the numbers might be impressive that Jose still doesn't make the Eastern All-Star team this season.

While he doesn’t score as much as point guards Devin Harris or Chris Paul, he does a great job of running the Raptors offensive, gets his teammates touches and rarely turns over the ball.

With gaudy stats like that, does it mean he’s improved enough to warrant consideration to play in the All-Star game this season? His new head coach thinks so.

“I think he’s up there right now,” Triano said while grinning. “He’s on the All-Star ballot and think that says a lot right there. His assist-to-turnover ratio is really high and we’re asking him to play a different style than he’s used to. So, I think him evolving into the style and system we’re playing now where he will be able to push the ball a little more and create easier baskets for his teammates that will just make him even better.”

While some of his stats may back up Triano’s claim, many of Calderon’s detractors will point to his defensive limitations or lack of scoring as a reason why he won’t be playing in Phoenix this February. While Calderon would brush off the snub - much like he did last season when this happened - it doesn’t mean he isn’t worthy of playing with the games elite during All-Star weekend.

It might have taken Calderon a couple of seasons to find his groove in the NBA, but it’s clear he has established himself as one of the top assist men in the NBA.

agreed, he is maybe a top 10, but not a top 5 guard at this point. as i see it right now, Mo Williams, T.J. Ford, Rajon Rondo, Mike Bibby, and Jameer Nelson are the top 5 in the east.. Jose would be 6th or 7th for me. He has a lot of room to grow, but he has hit a wall with the cast of characters assembled with him right now. Jose might have to start taking over games as he should have last night.

How can you put TJ ahead of Iverson or Stuckey, Devin Harris, and Rose in Chicago. That's silly.

He hasn't even been better than Jarret Jack this year.

you forgot one Devin Harris......
and please dont say you believe Jameer Nelson is better than Jose. thats laughable.
i dont think Jose will make it, but he's top 5 in the east IMO.
Harris, Bibby, Rondo, Rose. top 4. Jose is 5th IMO.

let's see, t.j. = pg, iverson - sg, stuckey - pg, i forgot him, put him in 6th ahead of jose - DH - SG, the nets run two sg's neither him nor vince is considered or listed as a pg, Rose = SG

and they were in no particular order, just listed... i should have said that, sorry.

Nelson has been playing far better than Jose this year, and that's not going to stop. The guy looks like he's slimmed down, and he's been deadly this year. He's more aggresive offensively and just as effective, and a better defender.

Did Nelson not outplay both Jose and TJ last year, its not that laughable.

Harris is a point guard, and Rose is a point guard. They bring up the ball and start the offense and they guard the opposing point guard. I don't care what they're listed as, if they aren't point guards, than the Raptors don't play basketball.

name me any guard in this league not named jose that would have made that stupid in bound turn over last night.. sigh, i turned it off after that stupid pass... i love jose, but he is not a top 5 guard in the east right now... harris is a sg as listed by the nets as is rose, jameer nelson is probably the most under-rated pg in the league right now, he killed us when we played them last time and shut jose down...

jameer - Key Stats
GP MIN/G PPG REB/G AST/G FG %
26 31.8 16.7 3.5 5.2 52.4

Jose - Key Stats
GP MIN/G PPG REB/G AST/G FG %
29 36.3 13.2 3.4 8.9 48.6

other than assists per game, Jameer has better numbers than Jose

Insider, have you been following basketball this year? Nelson has been torching people. He's been arguably the best point guard in the East.

Only reason why Ford is a designated a PG is merely because of his height. You add another couple inches to his frame and he's in the same mold as a Harris, Stuckey, etc. Ford's a SG in a PG's body.

they may bring the ball up, but they are shooters who bring the ball up as MJ did he was never considered a pg, kobe brings it up as well, but he is an SG. PG implies playmaker, the nets use two shooters and vince brings the ball up a lot as does ben gordon for the bulls.. i use what the rosters say about the players as that is their function on the team as the coach sees.

the guy scores 3 more points per game and he's way better?
i dont see it that way at all.

when a PG has Turk, Lewis, and D12 to pass to and only racks up 5 assists per game, thats nothing to write home about.

You and me both buddy! I wanted him SOOOOOO bad the year that we drafted Haffa.... people talk about passing on Iggy, but I think that passing on HIM was a bigger blunder. I used to take some flak for giving him love... happy to see now that he's justifying it!

No way Jose gets into the all-star game unless we go on a big winning streak and have a winning record
