Interesting, that's twice now i've heard how great Sonny Weems has been playing this week. Derozan said he thought Sonny was one of the most athletic players he's ever seen. That's a pretty significant quote coming from someones who recently said he hasn't seen anyone in college as athletic as he himself is. Now Colangelo says Weems has been attacking the basket at will and with great success all week. He used one example where he said Weems was 1 1/2 feet above the basket ready to throw it down and Johnson met him there and denied. That's some mad hops from someone Weems size.

Hopefully he can play that role for us when we need penetration and buckets in the paint. On the road that will be especially valuable. Raptor teams have allways been adverse to driving the paint, so he should get lot's of opportunity to play here.

Here's the only decent video i could find of Sonny, it's from his college days.

I believe Reggie is going to be huge for this team. They have very few guys known for rebounding the basketball in that front court. They're going to need a guy like Reggie to help compensate for the deficiency.

Weems being able to jump high doesn't equate to being able to find a decent role at this point. Eventually maybe something develops that way.

I was a bit surprised to hear that he is so certain that Belinelli and Evans will get so much more in the way of minutes than Jack will. Did I hear that right?

I think what he meant was who'll have a better chance to improve on the numbers, and since Jack had 13ppg/4apg last season and he doubts he can realistically improve on those numbers. I think both Beli & Jack will play roughly 23MPG with most of Jack's minutes @ PG and Evans will be lucky to get 15minutes.

With a name like SONNY WEEMS..how can you not succeed in the NBA

Colangelos comments concerning the playing time for Jack Bell and Evans was just saying that Jack will receive around the same time he did in Indiana, where Bell and Evans will have more opportunities to play than they did with GS and Philly respectively.

Colangelo seems like a smart enough guy, especially in the media relations sense. I think he could have said some other people, like Bargnani or Calderon, or the new improved improved Chris Bosh, but you learn a lesson fro saying things like "best team on paper". He'd onl be putting pressure on those 3 guys.

So why not say it about a guy who will likely see very limited playing time in order to build up his confidence and say to him that he thinks he can make it in the NBA.

I only hope it's Bargnani that can bring it the most. He said he's 260 lbs now. Maybe he can bring a little extra without being seemingly a Sam Mitchell basket case.

I doubt to say the least, that Jack is gonna play 30MPG here this season.
