Hollinger: Triano is in over his head

This is via RealGm and no link was given, i'll try to get the link?

Quote:
OK, we need to stop mincing words and call this what it is: Jay Triano is in over his head, and if the Raptors don't do something about it, it will cost them their best player this summer. The 146 points Wednesday night by Atlanta was the latest ridiculous example of Toronto's defensive ineptitude, and while the roster composed by Bryan Colangelo is far from ideal in this respect, this should not be the worst defensive team in history. Right now it is.

Getting defensive effort from players is one of the basic measuring sticks for an NBA coach, and Triano has failed miserably in this respect. The carping in the locker room following Wednesday's defeat spoke volumes -- players were basically begging the coaching staff to go through the film and go over the mistakes so they could correct them. Which makes one wonder what on earth the Raps were doing for the first quarter of the season while opponents conducted layup drills at their expense.

There's an added urgency for the Raps because of Chris Bosh's impending free agency -- if the Raptors can't show substantial improvement, he's probably a goner after the season. And it appears there's no chance of Toronto's showing that kind of progress under Triano. It would be a desperation move to change conductors at the 20-game mark, but I'm not sure the Raptors' situation gives them much of a choice.

Remember when Jay said he never looks ahead to the next game? These antics are sad, I had high hope and for this dude and I've see nothing productive from him and the coaching staff. Hes not ready for A head Coaching job, he doesn't know how to prepare and use film sessions to show what he wants on the court. I'm just flabbergasted....

He wants an easy job with lots of money, a job that allows him to be lazy, this is the close to perfect job for him, too bad his requests for the team to make more shots haven't been met so far.

I'm not sure what to say here - Triano seems a very intelligent person, so it's very strange to think he can be so wrong here. Not to mention that the defensive specialist is supposed to be Iavaroni ...

That being said, it's also hard to argue that we're playing horiffic D, and that we're definitely underachieving in that area too.

And Triano is not lazy - everybody had only high praise for his work ethic, so you can count that out. He might be falling short in the ability to coach at NBA level, but not due to lack of effort imo.

Maybe Triano should quit coaching at the NBA level, and coach Team Canada. OOppps, he was fired from that job. With th results he's getting in the NBA, he will not be hired for any coaching staff outside Toronto in the NBA. He is coaching himself out of the league.

He certainly wouldn't be the first Raps coach to do that.

Has there even been ONE head coach of ours who has gone on to coach somewhere else? lol....

one thing though we were still geting drilled when all the guys who are geting called out jose and Bargs mainly through the media by team mates werent on the court

amir ya he was good but still where -10 when he is in, and usually if you look at all the game we lost he has a worse minus that Bargs

the only guy who actually did something against ATL was the rookie the whole roster needs to wake up when rookie is doing something and these vets are doing nothing,

Yes i understand there is a lot of hatred going on about me, but i aint gonna listen or read any of them, so they can complain all they want. As for the possibility of getting fired, the reason why I got this job is more about Canadian pride which has a value in itself rather than strictly winning games. I would assume I am safe at this point.

Lenny... and i think Darrell Walker resurfaced with Washington for a bit.
Other than guys becoming assistants elsewhere, i think that's it.

This is the same Jay Triano that took a Team Canada basketball team with very little talent to the Olympics. It was Steve Nash (when he was slightly above average according to the NBA) and a bunch of grinders. Maybe leadership on the floor is something this team needs. After you never want your best player to say "we are just a bad team"

The reason why you coach is to win games. Nothing else, win games. I hate when olympic athletes make an excuse for not winning medals but say its all about the olympic experience. They talk about meeting other olympic athletes, experiencing the opening ceremony, coming to a new country etc. The reason why Canada and taxpayers support you is to bring back a medal, not for you to enjoy a olympic experience. For Triano, Canadian Pride is good, but the reason why the Raptors pay you is to WIN GAMES.

Bold statement, I most definitely disagree. He hasn't adjust or adressed any if our mistakes. It's too much for him, he's not ready to step up and get mad

How do you know what he does do or does not do behind the scenes? The team is losing and the team has never in its history had so many players in the rotation who can't play a two way game. The coaching profession esp. in the NBA is way too overvalued. In a players league the ones mostly to blame are the players themselves and the GM for picking the players. The coach basically is babysitting ego's for the most part.

You could have Red come back to life and coach this team and it would still be almost the same in the win column.
