Hollinger thinks wings are fine

Quote:

Jay Toronto: The raptors swingmen position is really worrisome to me. Parker, Moon, Kapono all had average or below Average PER last year. I know you were high on Hassan Adams - but can the Raptors make the secound round with so little at the 2 and three?

John Hollinger: I'm less worried than you -- even last year they were a real good offensive team, they just didn't D that well, and the 2s and 3s were among their best defenders (well, except Kapono). I'd be a little worried about Parker's age and I'd try to convince Kapono that the 3 is more of a weapon if he actually attempts a few instead of always stepping in, but I don't see these spots as giant red flags.
IF Hollinger thinks the wings are OK Im gonna have to go with him.

I think going into this season we're going to be fine, but if injuries become an issue at the wing this season (not to mention Parker's not a spring chicken anymore) we might run into some problems. :(

Hopefully between Adams, Moon and Kaps(all pretty hardy guys) the toll on AP wont be that bad. I would like to see AP not have to guard the best player on the other team for a change and be able to focus on his offense a bit more(hense brining in adams)

Also keep in mind that he raised the issue of defense from those positions.

When you've got an All-NBA defender down low, it makes a big difference in the approach towards perimeter defense as well.

AP will still likely have to guard the other team's best player (given that player is a 2/3), but yeah, he should get a little more time off it this year than in the past.

If Moon ever can become the Tayshawn type of player that I think he will, he would be able to guard the other teams best wing, he certainly has the speed, reach etc to become a player like Prince.

Moon is very efficient at generating possessions and while his offense in terms of points scored is not amazing, those stls, blks, rebs and low TO combine into a great force. Consider how Moon(8.5 ppg) has a FIC40 of 13.6 and Maggette (22.1 ppg) has a FIC40 of 13.2. That 13.6ppg is a huge amount to overcome yet Moon still outscores Corey.

AP is rock solid and always does the right thing. His type of experience and leadership are needed on all good teams.

Kapono is the best shooter in the league and his playoff clutch performance show his value.

Adams is still too new to start but as long as he can create possessions like Moon and exposes gaps for dunks he'll fit in nicely.

wing is fine?

Adequate Swag 07-23-2008 11:01 AM

I should probably know this.

And I could probably look it up but I'm lazy.

FIC40?

Snooch 07-23-2008 11:03 AM

Major, Moon is the 6th worst SF in terms of turnovers in the league.

I think that if Moon gan get his PPG average up to double digits and reduce his turnover while continuing all the other things he does so well(#1 rebounder in his position) then I will be very happy indeed with him as our starting SF.

Thats why I am not a huge fan of per as opposed to Usage rates, offensive and defensive ratings because Moons per is below league averages at 15 but as Major pointed out because of other things Moon brings his FIC40 is higher than Spaghetti whos per is 23?

There's a formula:

(Points
+ Offensive Rebounds
+ .75 Defensive Rebounds
+ Assists
+ Steals
+ Blocks
- .75 Field Goal Attempts
- .375 Free Throw Attempts
- Turnovers
- .5 Personal Fouls)

Straight from Colonel Sander's secret recipe. How did you find that?

I think guys like AP are really going to benefit from not having to worry about cheating towards the paint to help inside.

Why are FT attempts a minus?

Those are a good thing.
