Default Hollinger: Raptors 10th in Conference With a 35-47 Record

This is either going to work out spectacularly well or it's going to be spectacularly awful. That is, if they win 50 games, it won't be shocking, and if they win only 25, that won't raise eyebrows, either.

Right now, it's safe to aim for the middle of the two; not necessarily the most likely outcome, but the median outcome. Toronto has one All-Star, limited depth, a couple of obvious strengths and a couple of equally clear weaknesses. That spells mediocre to me, so I'm projecting them to land in the lower middle of the Eastern Conference's huddled mass of contenders. That's just a guess, though -- nobody really knows whether this mishmash will work or not until the balls go up.

Prediction: 35-47, 3rd place in Atlantic Division, 10th in Eastern Conference

So they might be good, but they may not be good, but I got my digs in so that's all that really matters.

35-47! GET THA FUCC OUTTA HERE HOLLINGER!

The only way that happens is if Bosh is out for an extended period and both Hedo and Bargs under perform.

At first I though it's a fake post, it can't be real. I've never seen a hollinger article so full of obvious factual mistakes (even statistical ones, which is supposedly his strength).
To recap, jack is not a starter, Bosh is not a good defender, we have excellent depth, Bargnani didn't spend the first 2/3 of the season in an offensive funk, he says jack and shannon brown are basically the same player and so on. He says that kapono was the worst player in the league last season, and yet, when he analyzed the trade, he said that the 76ers made a good move???

But to say that this team could win 25 games is the worst prediction I have ever seen in my life as an espn reader. I can't possibly understand how a fairly educated basketball writer can make that statement. Even 35, that's a 2 game improvement over the last season, which basically says that this and last season's team are pretty much the same in value????

but the cake is when he says that we could win between 25 and 50 (I guess 0 to 82 would have been to great of a range) and than he says he will settle for the middle. Memo to hollinger: check your calculator, (25+50)/2 does not equal 35.

I think 37-41 games if you ask me, that could get you the 8th seed maybe. The only weak teams in the east are nets/bucks.

I think he meant earning between 37 and 41 wins could get you the eighth seed. I'd put that number a little higher, maybe between 40-43

Hollinger thinking Jack is going to start at SG just shows how he doesnt actually watch the game of basketball and does not know the NBA.

Stick to talking about the numbers John, because when it comes to actually talking about the game being played you're way outside of your comfort zone.

Might be good, or might not be good?

This guy has absolutely no balls. Get off the fence numb nuts! I can't stand when guys make "predictions", and don't really have anything to add or any kind of real concrete predictions.

BTW, did he not say this almost word for word a coulpe months ago?

I'm gonna look for that, i swear he said these things almost word for word already.

Toronto: The Euraptors spent a ton of money this summer, but whether it was well-spent is a question open for debate. For starters, spending a combined $100 million for Turkoglu and Andrea Bargnani would make a lot more sense if basketball had a DH rule. Jarrett Jack at $20 million was excessive as well, and if the Euraps don't commit to paying a luxury tax down the road, these deals are going to give them a lot of problems.

But hey, it's not my money, and it might all work out brilliantly. They're committed to a floor-spacing, sweet-shooting outfit reminiscent of Bryan Colangelo's old Suns teams in a final crack at convincing Chris Bosh to stay beyond this season. Either that or they're trying to convince Bosh he's really living in Geneva; somebody needs to check to see if they aren't setting all the clocks six hours ahead up there.

While Toronto spent freely, there were some value moves beneath the surface: They got Rasho Nesterovic for a song and Marco Belinelli for less than that, and while I'm not high on DeMar DeRozan, a lot of folks whom I respect are.

I guess what I'm saying is I have no idea how this will work out, which is how they ended up in the mystery meat section. It's easy to split the difference and say they'll be a .500-ish team, but I don't think that will be the outcome. I'm expecting either a brilliant success or a spectacular failure, and I'm really not sure which.
Here's another article that was posted here awhile back.

".500ish" ......"either brilliant success or spectacular failure"...

Like i said, this guy has no balls.

hmmmm....guess he's right

Dude really went out on a limb there.

I'll do the same. Philly might be good, might not be good. Atlanta might be good, might not be good. Washington might be good, might not be good. Miami might be good, might not be good. Chicago might....

Funny but true. He really shouldn't write articles about things he clearly knows little about. It makes him look incompetent as sh**. It would be like us being forced to write an in depth article about the L.A. Clippers, right this minute just off the top of our heads. We would probably do as good a job as he just did!
