Hollinger: How did the NBA's international players fare during Olympics?

:( Not good reviews for either.

Roko Ukic, Raptors

The Croatian guard shot very poorly (4-of-20 on 3s, 32.7 percent overall) and had only nine assists against opponents not named Iran, fertilizing my seed of doubt as to whether he can back up Calderon succcessfully.

Its international play. Different rules, different teammates, different play calling, etc. I'm not worried about Calderon at all, but I do have doubts about the backup PG situation. One of those guys better be a diamond in the rough.

I don't think they will aybe Solomon but not Ukic. He might be a good player next season but this year he is still a rookie

he usually does much better with the international style, rules, play calling and teammates. The way he plays will always be better for international style. He would have been the MVP in the european championship last year if they had won the finals. The answer is pretty simple, he was playing badly in the olympics, but I doubt it will affect his season with the raptors.

I just thought the team hadn't quite gelled under a new coach and with the young guys earning more PT.

Considering this is pre-pre season, I'm not shocked by those numbers. Calderon was injured and Ukic in my opinion isn't a great international PG. Plus, I don't think he's ever been considered an above average 3 pt shooter. Expect numbers closer to Calderon's first year in the NBA.

he hasnt lost playing time actually, Carlos Cabezas played a lot in the previous tournaments. The new coach did make more rotations.
