Default Hollinger Grades The Miami/Toronto Deal

But any way you look at it, O'Neal is a massive upgrade on the replacement-level troika of Joel Anthony, Mark Blount and Jamaal Magloire, so it's a question of not whether the deal makes the Heat better, but how much.
Losing Marion is a bummer, but look at Moon. The difference between him and Marion just isn't that great if you look at their production the past two seasons, so the drop-off at small forward for the Heat should be more than offset by the increased production at center.

Grade: B-plus

Toronto: The Raps hit the reset button on last summer's trade for O'Neal by picking up Marion's expiring contract instead, but in return for a small upgrade at small forward, they lose a fairly productive big man. Word is the Raps want to re-sign Marion, which I believe would be a mistake at anything more than the midlevel exception: He's going to be 31, he depends totally on his legs and he's not exactly renowned as Mr. Sunshine in the locker room.
This deal likely represents a white flag on the season, but the Raps want to try out a Bosh-Bargnani-Marion frontcourt, play up-tempo and see what happens. It worked for team president Bryan Colangelo when he ran the Suns, but I'm not sure the personnel here is up to the challenge.

Grade: C

I don't see how Miami gets a better grade if what their recieving won't play more than 10 or 15 games the rest of the season.

IMO this is a win win trade. I like it for us, and both teams get flexbility when they want it.

Simple fancy, it's Hollinger. He looked at the numbers and made his decision right then and there.

To be honest, most reviews of this deal give us an edge and alot of the other reviews rate it an even trade. Both trades get each team what they need.

It's bullshit. You can't give the trade a "grade" and determine a winner or loser yet.

It's going to come down to chemistry not mathematics.

hollinger needs to just go away. He's an accountant that chills on excel all day, and i have trouble believing he actually watches basketball games.
